Beta 9 Talk

I think the jump between arbalastier and longbowmen are too large. Just as Guisarmier and Pikeman.

Once you have them its just going for Cuirassier before the offensive starts again.

When I leave a game and restart another game, some UHV would be checked as fail at the first turn.

Great Generals to pump triple promoted units and a mix of city bombarding, city attacking and collateral damage Bombards do a fine job. Usually, the trick is to have an army with a large diversity of promotions, and a few healers. Even a Longbowman with Guerilla is useful in a stack.

Finished a monarch Norse UHV - founded Lund as Capital (Copenhagen sucks, there is no good city spot in Denmark) and Norkoping. Founded Rekjavik 10 turns before UHV #1 triggers (and I have a work boat immediately completed AA).

Both Crimea and Sicily are easy. If I weren't going for UHV #3(raze), I could be leader all the way. Razed 6 cities before English spawned.

Norse:

The Atlantic access at Iceland disappears some point after building Vinland. And it doesn't appear near England after discovering astronomy. So I cant build colonies even that I control all of England. Well actually I can but that's because I have France as vassal and have demanded their atlantic access.

I can see the france, spain and portugals aa's but not englands.(the dutch haven't spawned yet)

Good point. Will think about this.

Played through a game as Austria yesterday, no serious bugs. The initial (first contact) diplomacy window with Bulgaria had no text, just the "There shall be peace in our time" etc. options. Haven't read through the thread so I don't know if this has been mentioned.

Other notes on the game:
- Germany was very weak - they peace vassaled to me halfway through the game. Other than Salzburg flipping to me I didn't take any of their cities and I don't think they were warring with anyone, they were just kind of limp the whole way through.
- Poland and Venice also wound up vassalizing to me - Poland after they DOWed me in the late 1500s - I took Krakau and Halicz from them and that was that. Venice peace vassaled to me shortly after the Ottomans spawned and started to obliterate their cities along the southern Adriatic.
- Speaking of the Ottomans, Holy Crap I think I know how the real life Habsburgs felt. The Turks had obnoxiously large stacks of cavalry and I was basically the sole bulwark keeping them from conquering all of Europe. They didn't manage to take any cities from me, and after beelining Kurassiers (my new favorite UU) I managed to take southern Serbia and Ragusa from them. After 1650, the next century was basically spent fighting Turks to a stalemate in Bulgaria. The Byzantines collapsed in the 1200s; I have no idea if the large number of independents in Anatolia made things easier for the Turks, but I assume it did.
- I did manage to get the first two UHV conditions, but the defensive pact one screwed me over - I had pacts with Spain and France for most of the game, but France wound up becoming a peace vassal of Spain, leaving me with only one pact. No one else liked me enough to sign one. :(
- The English buffs are clearly working as they were the strongest non-Muslim power. I believe they had a pact with the Ottomans so I spent most of the game at war with them, but Austria is landlocked and far away so it didn't really have any impact.
- The Burgundians held their own against France and eventually passed them in score. Both France and Germany, the two civs people always complain about being overpowered, were really lame in this game. Strange... :crazyeye:
- Austria spawns as the Mongol invasions are winding down so I don't know what exactly happened, but the Kievan Rus survived them handily and then thrived thereafter. They were the strongest civ for quite a while until the English/Ottomans (and myself) started to catch up. I had to DOW on them early to take eastern Transylvania for the first UHV condition.
- The Cordobans survived until the end, although they were Christian. Portugal was double-teamed by them along with Spain shortly after spawning.

Germany is too weak, Cordoba is too strong (survives whole game and never gets chance to respawn in North Africa). Only two complaints, the rest seems pretty good. Great progress guys and thanks for involving my idea of someone in North Africa!

Things I saw on spawn:
-Burgundy vassal of Britian
-Germany founded Hanseatic League in Grongerin(sp?), and it was spread almost everywhere(how lucky am I?).
-Almost everyone was building their East and West India Companies
-Spain likes conquering random Indie cities(had a city in Hungary, another in northern Germany, and a final city in the middle of Russia)
-Spain was also a super-power, they were building, and had most wonders at the time.
-Antewerp flipped to me and in doing so reduced Burgundy to a single city, Dijon(they later got attacked by the French)
-France was significantly weaker, which is great.
-Germany hadn't settled many cities, so therefore Germany kinda looked bare.
-Austria conquered Hungary!!!! PARTY TIME!!!!! :D
-Finally, does Lithuania have dynamic names yet? 'cause they don't seem like it.

France and Germany too weak. They were superpowers back during this time, not a bunch of weaklings that lost to Burgundy and Spain.

(Cordoba too strong)

EDIT: Ignore repeat of my earlier post.

Playin Beta 9 and have found an error that was corrected but overcorrected. The Pope now calls way more defensive crusades than crusades for Jerusalem. Im in 1289 and there have been no crusades for the holy land, it is currently controlled by arabs.

How about one more fish around Iceland? There were cods. Or I can only build culture for 20 turns (or send a missionary...)
Build a mine and you have expansion in 4-5 turns .. you lose a pop but well worth it. Never going to be much good without additional food though but should be sorted if the walrus yields 2 after being camped.

I started a sweden game and their settlers, workers and boats had the free promotion vs mounted.

played as Portugal and with help from defensive crusade destroyed Cordoba. Cordoba successfully respawsn with Tunis as Capital. Name is still caliphate of Cordoba though. When they respawn does their provence map change to allow them to build cities in Africa or is it all unstable?

I played a game as Portugal, used a defensive Crusade to kill Cordoba, later killed Spain so now I have all of Iberia as mine. I vassalized the Ottomans, and conquered many cities for them to the point that their empire is from Benghazi to Vienna. My Empire starts in the Azores and I have a continuous culture (counting my vassal's) running from the Azores down through Morocco from there to Jerusalem, from there to Istanbul, to Venice (I killed them) to Barcelona. Yes, as Portugal I have a ring of culture surrounding the Mediterranean, furthermore my stability was +34 at the end of the game...

We know this. There are several reasons why it's still not fixed:
- It requires a lot of code. (seriously, it's not worth it, for now)
- It doesn't effect the gameplay. (Workers, settlers and ships can't fight mounted units)
- We have more important things we want to include, get fixed.
