"Beta" Massive WW2 scenario

Rocoteh, the idea of an MP version sound interesting. Perhaps that will also give some insight for potential future changes to the scenario.
Btw, contrary to your concern that thethread ismore or less dead and WW2 Global might not attract many players, interest seems to be pretty high!

CellKu,

Yes, should players think there are to many naval
units its possible that future versions will adapt the flotilla-system.

Its very positive that interest for the thread still is high.
My own favourite game/scenario during all the years have been
a 1939 start WW2 Global.
For some reason very few have been produced.

Right now I am adding new custom units each day and bug-tests them.

And the ones produced are not very good or they are very slow.

Rocoteh's WW2 Global will be as outstanding as all his other scenarios.

Rocoth, how big are the fleets of the different civs?

CellKu

CellKu,

Thank you.

Royal Navy will have about 300 units. US will have 200 units.
The other major powers will have 150-200 units.
Soviet have 139 submarines!
Those submarines that start in the Baltic will (like in reality)
be restricted by massive German minefields.

I think it will be possible for players to handle all these naval units.
After all you just hit "end turn" when you have made all naval
actions (and other actions) you want to do.
BTW: German U-boats will have custom graphics.
I have added 7 graphics for Soviet armoured units so far.

Rocoteh

Rocoteh,

that sounds fantastic. Is the number of land units that huge, as well? I hope my new pc can cope with all these units in a relatively short period of time. ;)

CellKu

CellKu,

Thank you for the link to the minimap.

No, ground untis are not so many as naval units.
Germany start with about 70 ground units for example.

On the few commercial games/scenarios:

The computer-version of A World in Flames have been
"soon to be released" for more than 8 years now...
The problem with that game is also, that in my opinion
the game-system have become obsolete.

Yesterday I saw that Grigsbys WW2-Global (area-movement
and start date 1940) had been delayed again. This time
with 5 months.

Then there is Hearts of Iron.....
Well, I do not like real-time. Not on the Global scale anyway.

Rocoteh

Isn´t the scenario going to be terribly slow with so many units? Wouldn´t be annoying to move such large numbers?

Anyway, it sounds like a "strategy needs to be planned" scenario. :D

Hamah,

I think it will depend on how good you think
the scenario is. If you will think its a really good "one more turn"
scenario, you will probably think you have to few units after
some turns!

I am not so much into real-time either. Compared to real-time, the strategic issue has much more weight in turn-based games. Real-time focuses more on tactical issues in my opinion.

With respect to the other games: as there isn't much new out there, the more important is your scenario. :)

CellKu

CellKu,

Yes, in fact I think Firaxis with CIV 4 will decide if
serious turn-based strategy-games shall live or not.

In fact, it maybe like Barbarossa that in the first turns many units die. I can´t wait...

Hamah,

Yes, playing Germany for example should mean an
aggressive U-boat campaign against The British Empire
to isolate the different parts of the empire from each other.
That will mean high losses of naval units.

An isolated British India is vulnerable to an attack from Japan.

Rocoteh

How many civs does it have? I can see it covers many aspects of the war world wide.

It´s great having lots of naval units, specially U-boats, so we can really simulate the naval blockades and attacks on merchants. Other scenarios won´t let you do with good accuracy.

Its 31 civs. I will continue to add custom graphics.

Right now the download is 60 MB compressed.

Limit at CFC is 100 MB compressed.

Yo Rocotech how long have you been workin on this and where can I get the newest one?

Drivebymaster,

When Meateater was still around at CFC I worked
as Scenario-developer for this scenario.

The last 2 weeks I have invested some 4 hours each day.
Since WW2 Global was launched 16 months ago a huge
amount of time have been invested.

Its probably one of the most well researched scenarios at
CFC. For example every ship in the Royal Navy is present named.

Among the scenarios I have worked with there is probably
only one that I have allocated more time to:

The ACW scenario. (However TGW is closing in!)

Target date for WW2 Global is November 15.
Since there is a 100 MB limit on uploads I give these
nations priority with regard to custom units:

Germany,Soviet, British Empire and USA.

Rocoteh

Rocoteh, I have seen that the R&R mod has 107 MBs. And Thunderfall seemed to have found a way to upload it - via 3ddownloads.com. Thus, maybe there is a way to take care of your scenario even when it is bigger than 100 MB. Another option could be to cut the scenario into two parts, so that none of the parts exceeds 100 MB. (That is only in case that you would like to get more units into the scenario, if not don't bother.)

CellKu

CellKu,

Thank you for the info.

I will probably add custom units to the maximum allowed
download size in version 1.0.

Should reactions be positive I will later make a version 1.1
with some of the solutions you mention.
