beyond the sword install problems

I have a downloaded version of civ4 from trymedia. Attempting to install the beyond the sword expansion.

Ran into the whole "newer version of civ 4 available/installing patch/install aborted" thing that i've been reading about here.

i've found the 1.74 patch from trymedia (at softpedia) and downloaded that but when installing it says civ 4 is not on my computer.

tried to find the 1.61 patch from trymedia, but when clicking on that download (again at softpedia) it just takes me straight to the 1.74

can i get help on where to go from here or is it just impossible to add beyond the sword to my digital downloaded version of civ 4?

(do not have the warlords expansion btw)

no it is not digital, couldn't find a digital version to buy

It is *possible* that it will not work with the trymedia civ4 - the only digital distro out there that actually promises compatibility with the cd versions is from direct2drive.
That said: trymedia recently changed the patch their game uses - you need to contact them for the 1.74 patch it might work afterwards - certainly not without a patched game

ok, well thanks for the help and quick response. I guess I'll just take my loss and get the ultimate edition (should have just done that the first time anyways).

I've been trying to figure this out for the past hour and finally got BTS to install on vista.

First download and install the v1.61 patch:

Then v1.74:
http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/672/Civilization_4_1.74_Patch.html

After this, I was able to install and run BTS.

But for this solution I would have smashed my head against the system..

I installed civ iv, updated it till 1.61 version NOT all the way and then ran the bts disc. installs perfect!
