Beyond the Sword installation issue...

When trying to install Beyond the Sword on my laptop, I run into a problem when installshield wizard gets to about the 80% complete level of "Sid Meier's Civilization 4 - Beyond the Sword is preparing InstallShield Wizard..."
When it gets there, it sits at that point for a couple of minutes and Windows "Not Responding" lets me know what I'dve never figured out on my own.
Then an error message pops up that says:
"An error (-5006 : 0x80070017) has occured while running the setup.

Please make sure you have finished any previous setup and closed other applications. If the error occurs, please contact your vendor: Firaxis games"

I've gotten to this point many times now. What I don't understand is that it worked on my computer before, then I did a system restore and my hard drive was formatted and since that day it's done this.
I'm running an intel dual core 1.5ghz processor with 2gb RAM and an Intel 965 chipset.

Any suggestions? Thoughts?
Thank you!!!!

you might want to try the following:
rename
...\program files\common files\installshield
to something like
...\program files\common files\installshield_old
then retry the install
IF that helps you can delete installshield_old, if not rename it back to installshield
then try copying all files from the dvd to some directory on the harddrive and try installing from there.

Hey did you find the solution to that problem?? I'm having the same issue when installing beyond the sword to my laptop with Windows Vista. I had it installed in my laptop with XP and worked just fine...

Please help me, I don't know what to do!

Yes, it's the same error that jfstryker8 reports, I'm copying part of his message below:

I wonder if this has to do with Windows Vista or if it could be a problem of a damaged CD ROM. But I had install BTS previously on my laptop with XP and it works well... can you help me??

Yes, I tried that and didn't work :( thank you for your time, I really appreciate it!

I'll wait for your response, in the meantime I'll be playing Warlords :D

I was able to install BtS and play it, but decided to re-install to address an issue with my Hall of Fame not recording any of my scores.

Upon re-installation, i'm getting the 5006 error as well. Looks like my daughter managed to get her hands on my disc and it's fairly scratched... is it possible that this is somehow related?

Thanks.

Yes, unfortunately we might have the same problem... my disc looks a little bit scratched as well and the CD drive has some problems reading it even in the machine with XP... it might be that the section of the disc that contains the install information cannot be read... so what to do now?? Any suggestions?

sorry I lost this from sight over the weekend.
This error seems to be a cyclic redundancy check error, meaning that the installer cannot read the file(s) on the disc. In most cases it really is a damaged or dirty cd/dvd. Try cleaning it, then try copying all files from the disc(s) to a new folder on your hard drive and run the installer from there...

Yeah, it's the disc. I can't copy the files over to my harddrive either.

Anyone know if 2K will replace damaged media?

Thanks Ori.

$7.50 for a replacement though? I only paid $19 for the game the first time around. :(

I actually ended up downloading a copy of BtS and i now use my "official" disc when i play as it seems to work fine enough for "proof of purchase" alone.

Thanks for all the help everyone!

I clicked the link to go to the replacement program and still could not find it. Also, where did you get this download?
