Beyond The Sword

I think green is good as it is.
imo on this map, food>>hammers by a margin even in late game.

I fear this map will lead itself to Rifling and drafting. :) (or even Nukes :lol: )
Don't tempt me :D Draftles does look like the way to take over the Old World :hammer:

Ok, I am sold on the Green spot. Thanks for elaborating, guys. :)

I am also in favour of writing next. I think we should also self-tech IW and Alpha. Let's steal the other stuff. :p

Okay guys, we have a problem sorta. :p

oh and re draftles, look at all the food on this map! What better way is there than drafting? :)

Hum that might actually be good. 1 problem: no metal. It's good because we can settle yellow dot and capture green dot off the barbs later (though probably have to resettle). 2 options: start building chariots as soon as horses are hooked up or switch tech to IW (I think I repeat myself, but I love binary research..;)) and get a few vultures. How long do we have to IW?

17 turns with binary.
Chariots will die without scratching the city. It would take a good 6-7 chariots at least!

Do we have Pottery already? If we do, I think spamming Cottages and getting to IW now should be a priority. I am ok with building a couple chariots for scouting and MP, but I don't want to build a lot of them as Alex's UU is an axe without the weakness against chariots. Our UU is a much better hard-counter to his and will certainly be more cost-effective in taking that barb-city. It should also mean we can attack when the barb city is size 2 and save a settler's cost.

Sounds good, smilingrogue. We have plenty of riverside grass to cottage up, let's do this. Eridu can't be cottaged for the lack of food. Not sure about Kish; I don't like cottagespam so I wouldn't put cottages there.

If we go full-steam towards IW we won't need to build chariots. We can use warriors for MP, they're cheaper.

I never spam cottages outside of capital, either. When I said spam cottages, I meant in the riverside tiles we cleared for our cap. But if we want to cottage more, I am ok with that. :) Here's to hoping that Plains hill which started un-forested in our cap's BFC is Iron and not Uranium or something. :lol:

Since we are discussing city placement, I was wondering what the best way to get spies is? In my experience, they drop like flies while on missions or even just walking to a target tile. Should we plan for a city that will exclusively build spies or will working them into regular build order be enough?

I don't think that's a problem until the AI get security bueros or run conuter espionage missions. Not sure though. Early game we shouldn't lose many, late game we can build many :)

What if we don't have iron? Any contingency?
Also since green is taken saving us a settler, I think yellow now seems reasonable?

@ Revent

Let's hope we have metal somewhere! If we don't, I guess we have to use Horse Archers and hope for the best. We may be able to trade for metal from Asoka if he has two copies but it will cost an arm and a leg. :(

We have iron in the land we sealed off, let's hope it's already within borders.

Yes, well, not because green is saving us a settler (which we can't be sure yet) but because green is unavailable atm.

Okay, will start play in a bit! Just got home from work, stressful day, had another death so need some game time!

This game is getting a bit worrying :p

Sorry, for some reason, every time I press PrntScrn, it says screenshot failed.

Turn 71: We see Monty's workboat. He founded Buddhism which has spread to Alex and they have both converted. Diplo will be tricky I think on this one in the beginning.

Monty ALREADY has Alpha AND IW. Means he is not alone and must have some strong techers near him! Darius maybe? He does prioritise Alpha after all in a lot of games.

Play on?

I think it's a bit early for both Alpha AND IW considering our guys down here don't even have writing :lol:

Anyway, I wanted to post to confirm if everything is fine/any change of plans. Whether or not OB with Monty, any trades or anything...etc...

Have you been playing in Window Mode?

No clue how he got that advanced so early.

Sure. But first, PLEASE explain the MM in Uruk and Kish :smoke:
I see that one of the grass mines just finished, but why have 2 citizens instead of forested tiles or the cottage?!? Also, in Kish, why not work the corn??
We have 4 workers. All 4 are within Uruk's BFC. Not good. Why isn't Kish connected to Uruk? Would only require 2 roaded tiles (and hook up horses).
The scouting warrior should heal (1t) before moving on.

What are your plans in the next few turns? Especially RE builds and worker movement.

The situation with monty is unusual but too early to tell whether we're really in trouble. Too bad he and his buddy Alex have high warmonger respect. Alex will likely come for us or Asoka. Arguments to attack us: borders. Arguments to attack Asoka: religion. Well, I'm not too fond of those odds, considering how important the borders part is (and how little alex cares about religion). We should make sure we get buddhism quickly (read: coastal city, as alex hardly will send any missionaries).

The fact that Monty is advanced can be due to a massive gold-in-bfc capital. It'll be tricky dealing with him. Probably we'll have to cut him down a bit mid-game, before he starts vasalling everyone on the map.

Oh I was having a look around at the micro and stuff but forgot to adjust it before uploading the save. :$

As for city plans:
Uruk: Settler->Worker->Worker->Settler (maybe slip in a barracks)
Kish: Granary->Warrior
Eridu: Granry->Barracks

Yeah, that could also be it! :) It could be he got Alpha and traded for IW or vice versa.

Well it does look like it was like that for more than the 1 turn. I check every city every turn so that was quite an unfamiliar sight! I wasn't :whipped: you, just wanted to know what was going on.

As for city plans:
Uruk: Settler->Worker->Worker->Settler (maybe slip in a barracks)
Kish: Granary->Warrior
Eridu: Granry->Barracks
Uruk, with access to gold, should be grown sometime soon after the next settler completes. We could use warriors for MP IIRC.

Eridu could be used to build workers when at size 3. Rax aren't necessary there but a good item for when growing.

I think you should play until you have settled the yellow spot. We should probably switch into Slavery after this settler is done.
:agree:

@Revent: About the "Screenshot failed"-messages: I would love to play SGs in window mode to write the report while playing but I always get that message while in window mode. There actually is a screenshot, just not in the ss-folder but in the clipboard (which you'd need to save manually).
