Beyond The Sword

I renamed our cities accordingly. Will attach a save.

City Builds:
Home Sweet Home- Chariot, Spy, Spy
Gold Pigs- Forge, Spy, Research
Lake Pigs- Forge, Buddhist Temple, Barracks, Moai
One off Coast- Spy, Chariot, Spy, Research
Double Clam- Lighthouse, Barracks, Spy
Fish Cows- Zig, Forge, Lighthouse
Conf Shrine-Chariot, Chariot, Zig
Indian Crabs-Forge, Barracks, Research
Barb City-Granary, Zig, Forge, Lighthouse
Triple Sugar-Granary, Zig
Triple Dye- Zig, Conf Temple (whip), Forge

Worker Micro:
Worker 6- Cottage then 1N4E to farm the corn
Worker 3- 1S and cottage, then cottage overlapping tiles between fish cows and future corn city.
Worker 5- Workshop followed by mining the desert hill 1N2W. Start mining all the hills in case of popping a resource
Worker 7- Farm then mine 3N
Worker 4- Farm Triple Dye

Overall Plan:
-Build a couple of chariots for MP in our Indian cities to prevent revolt, priority is on Conf Shrine
-Zigs in all cities and run a spy specialist if possible as soon as possible
-Settle scientist in Home
-Great general will create a chariot super medic
-Triple dye's function needs to be determined; for now, I am going to farm so it grows to happy cap. Afterwards, we can cottage
-Lake Pigs seems to be a powerful coastal production site. A probably necessity since we are going to be warring and want to get at least one vassal
-Try to take Sparta, but if this fails, ie too many reinforcements, we may need to change our plan
-Alternative plan, go for Corinth (possibly followed by Sparta)
-What if Alex tries taking back the city? I think it's very well possible and our units are not strong enough to hold their own in defence. Shall I modify the strategy if I see a stack coming towards Triple Dye or Triple Sugar to build some more Vults? Or shall I whip the city down to size 1 and gift it to him for peace?

Tech Plan:
-Research Compass
-Steal Aesthetics and CoL from Asoka
-Steal Currency and Maths from Alex
-Meditation from anyone

Okay plan is done. Feel free to rip apart. :)
I will probably play around 15 or so turns.

Wow, that's some detailed plan. In general it looks fine though a lot can happen so you might end up throwing half the plan to shreds :p

Generally: Our captured cities and those not stagnant at :)-cap may be whipped whenever reasonnable. Infra is important, let's get it up quickly.

I don't like cottaging but I guess with the EE we don't have much of a choice... growth first for sure.

-Try to take Sparta, but if this fails, ie too many reinforcements, we may need to change our plan
Don't try too hard. IIRC the decisions what to offer for peace depends on a few factors, some being kill:loss ratio, relative power ratio, "expected shortterm war results". By the latter I mean that the AI is less likely to offer a good deal if they have a SOD at your doorstep than they are if we are at their's. I think we should try and get peace ASAP, in that sense, if you get an opportunity to take sparta (with the reinforcements), go for it, otherwise leave it and wait until he gives us a reasonnable deal.

The only city in danger is thebes. I don't think he'll move for it. What is triple sugar? I assume thebes but I only see 1 sugar. Triple Dyes is not in danger, he'll try and defend sparta not attack in that area. Make sure that you would see HAs approaching though, their mobility could cause problems. If they see an undefended city they might go for it.

-Research Compass
-Steal Aesthetics and CoL from Asoka

Steal everything from Asoka. If we have EPs left, don't steal from Alex yet but wait until we burnt all our EPs on asoka. He'll finish monarchy in 2t so we probably get rid of our spare EPs though.

Yeah, fair enough. Will get to playing it sometime tonight after dinner! I promised myself to play only if I studied for an upcoming test

Oooooohh that's cute! :p

Okay, so I played two turns a day too late! I do apologise for the slow play lately. I just haven't found myself enough free time to actually open up the game.

But I played and it seems that Alex is coming to take back Triple Dye (by the way, Triple Sugar was just stupid of me, I realised that and renamed it to double spice  )

We could probably take Sparta at this moment but we would lose Triple Dye. Perhaps whip out a wall to slow him down? He has seige after all so will wait to bombard. By that time, we could even whip out reinforcements maybe?

No, we couldn't take Sparta at this moment and no, we shouldn't abandon triple dye. Like I said a few times already before you played your 2 turns, the main objective, with our current strength, is to hold our cities and wait till we get a proper peace deal.

It appears this stack is why we don't get it yet, Alex thinks he can get a city off us. I expect him to roll over once his SOD is crushed.

No, he won't wait and bombard. Triple dye has no cultural defenses. It would be great to get them up but I don't see how.

Suggestions: IMMEDIATELY cancel the Go-to of those 2 vults that would move onto the jungle next turn. If alex moves on that jungle tile adjacent to triple dye, then go ahead as it was planned (take the safe route), else take the road. Adjust MM in triple dye to produce max. 4 hammers this turn, then 2popwhip the vult next turn (it is close to :)-cap), overflow into zig. Don't build more units after that except chariots for MP and finally some spies... We have several cities without MP and our 2 indian border-cities need a few more MP as well, against the revolts.

I'm sorry about all these delays! Normally I'm not this bad, but real life is preventing me from actually getting a chance to play Civ. I'll be back in form on Wednesday though. If you do want to carry on a bit, feel free to but I'll definitely continue on Wednesday :) (That's when my university entry exam is!)

I was about to post. It's okay, maybe I'll play in the meantime, not sure yet. 2 turns in a week certainly isn't too hot ;) Good luck with your exams!

Okay, I don't think I'm going to handover the game yet (unless you really want to play), but just posting to let you know that I AM playing! :)

I think I'll stop when I manage to steal a tech or two off of Asoka! :)

Currently 560 AD, destroyed his stack. He was down to 2 cats and a swordsman who weren't full health so I gambled and attacked at 92%, 92% and 73% odds and won all 3. :) After that, he was willing to give peace and 75 gold.

We now have enough EP on him to see his city and everything he is building! For some reason, can't see his research, but we're doing alright. :)

I made a trade with Monty. Clams for 7 gold so our slider is stable at 20% EP and 10% research. -2 gold a turn, 27 beakers and 64 EP.

32 going to Monty now and 32 to Alex.

A spy destroyed a cottage of Home, so will get a worker to build that again.

All in all, getting to be a very fun game. :)

Feudalism is a key tech for us I think because without seige, a medieval war may not be as easy as normal!

Okay, doesn't sound bad, but would again be nice to see a save.

What medieval war are you talking about? I thought we were supposed to do space... If so, we're in no rush and should wait until renaissance (draftles or cannons), much better cost/gain ratio. Feudalism doesn't allow siege, only unit it enables is lbows...

I mean if we got declared on in a medieval era! We're not allowed to use seige after all :)

Sorry about the save, was rushing off to bed time  (which means I post on my phone if I'm unable to sleep)

Anyway, I'll be posting the save shortly. :)

Save attached.

Post peace, Shrine city went into revolt again.
Two spies got caught in India so far.
Most cities running a Spy
Double clams running an Engineer (if we get it, rush buy Kremlin maybe)
We can see Alex's city builds.
Trade for Monty: Clams for 7gpt
Opened borders with Alex
Double spice built a workboat so we can start exploring Monty and the French.
No AI has compass yet! Clearly the right way to go! :)
SoD is still in Triple Dye? Do we want to go take Delhi?

That's all I think. Not much happened.

Sorry, I hope you don't mind the rushed summary. :( bit pushed for time as it's bed time for me now and I have a 13 hour shift at work tomorrow.

It's quite annoying having to gather what happened during your set every time I must say.

Why don't we have OB with Asoka and scouted his land properly? He seems to have found another island as he has 6 cities.

Why are our vults chillin' around in triple dye while we have 2 cities with nearly 8% chance of revolt? And the ex-greek cities are without MP.

Apparently GL and hindu AP were built...

We could also give horses to Alex for 4 gpt... the units we'd want him to build most are mounted so that makes sense.

I guess trading around Compass is up to me. What tech would you like to tech next? I'd suggest theology.

Why aren't our workers down south clearing jungle?

Okay, I do apologise, just very short of time these past few days and I didn't want to keep you waiting.

However, now until Christmas, I have a lot more free time so will do a proper summary. Once again, my apologies.

:) Tech wise, Theology seems good.

As for cities, I wasn't sure what to do with the stack? What if he started preparing as soon as the 10 turns were over so I thought might as well heal them first before deciding.

Yeah I got that and I understand. During the time when I was SGing much it also happened to me. My point is that your reports always were quite short. I'm not saying this to bash you but to improve communication between us :)

He just lost a war (we got gold off him <-> we give him a city) so he won't try again just yet.

If you have some more things to add about the next turnset, shoot. I'll play sometime this afternoon.

Okay, that's fine. I'll make it better from next time. :)

Fair enough, that seems reasonable.

Green from me.

Re Alex, why do we want him to build mounted units?

Re Alex, why do we want him to build mounted units?
So he doesn't build other units (like lbows).

Start off by doing the changes I mentionned earlier. I'm not too fond of the cottages sprouting everywhere... CS would do us quite some good. Also change some MM to get 2pop infra whips in some cities that need 'em.

Do these trades: 50g + compass to CdG for currency. Conpass to Alex for Monarchy + 40g. Compass to Monty for Maths + 70g.

(1) Another revolt in conf shrine. Sigh. Maths + Compass to Asoka for CoL + 40g.

(3) Steal Aesth from Asoka. Sell corn to CdG for 5gpt.

(4) Can't get a better deal off Alex (with CoL and Aest) than CoL + 85gpt for calendar so I take it.

(5) Steal Archery off Asoka. He'll finish Feud in 3t, turn EPs to 90% against him to put those spies to use that are stationed in delhi.

(6) Asoka gets his hands on 380g (failgold from shweda). I get 340g for calendar.

(7) Damn, Monty starts on theo. He: due in 3. Us: due in 15

(8) Settle Corn-filler on the northern coast. Steal Feud off Asoka.

(10) Fail at stealing lit off Asoka. Succeed on the second attempt. Steal Machinery off Alex.

(11) Revolt at crabtown. Damn, both cities were down to below 5%... Steal Construction off Alex.

I just notice that, since we have lit, we could build NE. I suggest we do that, in the capital.

Other things:

- Make sure we can see research of all AIs, all the time.

- Alex is nearly completely leeched. CdG has some nice techs but Monty is the guy we need to get a grip on.

- Settler for the second filler city is en route. Chop all forest in it's BFC to speed up development.

- Been switching around EP focus all the time. With most cities off infra duty, we can run 100% slider (10% science 90% espionage).

- Monty has been all set long in WHEOOH, I guess he's after CdG.
