PsiNorm has requested that I help with his mod :) The reason for posting here will be evident in a sec ;)

@PsiNorm you needto turn on your private messaging or something  My email acts up sometimes and will not let me type in the message box :( sorry. and I'm not good enough to make 'people' units yet. The only thing I might be able to do would be this thing (see pic below) :) I have, as they say, a lot on my plate right now though, I've already strectched myself a little thin. :( try posting your request in the main creation forum. I'll let you know if I'm able to make this,um.... whatsathing. :)

Sorry about that. When I signed on I didn't know how addictive this forum would be. Usually when I sign on to something like this I just say no to everything, that way I'm not bombarded by cookies or spam.

Ok guys, Pm away!

PsiNorm

:bump: Does anyone know if any of the units in this thread were ever completed and released? I've found many previews in other threads by bhiita too but most are not in the units library or database.

Check the SF d/l db tomorrow for the following -

-;)z

Thanks Oz! I have two of those already. Only the first one is currently in the database I think. There are lots of other previews in this thread. Can I assume they were never finished?

Sadly (well, there's a literally 1 flick anim for a Stargate unit, but there's a complete one by Bjornlo IIRC) especially as this, below, was the puppy I REALLY wanted ... (It's animated;click on it.)

Yep that's the main one I wanted too... oh well thanks for the uploads anyway. Good to have them in the database. The walker I didn't already have is a nice unit.

Hi! (reading post from myself back then is very odd...I was very over caffinated) kinda dropped off the face of the internet for a while...
I am getting a new computer this week specifically oriented to get back my graphics mojo. Will be learning and perfecting human animation with it mainly. I have been thinking about the old civ3 days and am going to at least finish this tank for you guys. (Will make sure it was worth the wait) ;)

so... I originally posted from my phone .. then got the comput0r, then internet and then I got a job, gf moved in and for some reason, my sleep got all jacked up and am exhausted all the time. I've just been zoning out playing eve online when I'm on the PC
I still really want to finish some stuff and learn more, but my motivation fell with my energy levels and lucidity.
I apologize for getting anyone's hopes up and not following through.... again

You're just lucky we don't have "lynch mob" emoticons ( :joke: ) - Seriously, though, let inspiration, when it comes, guide your efforts.

Best,

Oz

Bhiita, I have found myself with the same symptoms, for many of the same reasons. Your story is very familiar to me, save that my favorite online video drug was "Zuma".

The problem is that, when you feel low motivation, you can imagine any task as being HUGE, so you tell yourself that you'll get to it when you have the energy - except that you'll never have the energy for a task that you've already decided will require maximum energy just to get started. So here are some suggestions for you that I've tried (with the caution that I'm no expert, this is all just my opinion):

Spoiler :
1. Kill the bookmark to the video drug. It's tough, and you'll long for it, but you don't need it and you know it.

2. Work on something simpler or more interesting first. Make a very simple unit: we can always use those too. Sometimes you just have to stir the juices to get them going.

3. Make a truce with your Id. Ever had a knock-down-drag-out argument with yourself? You'll notice that your subconscious has a way of wanting to have the last word: it will just covertly subvert whatever decision you think you've made. The Id is stupid and immoral, but fairly easily sated with less self-destructive nonsense. Try starting an 'Id file', and when you feel that block coming on, work on the tank with huge breasts until the stupid Id falls back to sleep.

4. Find a partner in the forum who likes to do the very thing you hate to do: don't like skinning your models? Someone else here might just live for that. Besides, having a partner or group working with you gives you an interested audience and peer motivation to work; that is: exactly what you need. Going this route might (almost certainly will) require some compromise, but idea-sharing can also lead to that ever-desired Flash of Inspired Genius (FIG). A FIG is better than an orgasm, and can be tremendously motivating itself.

5. Work in the morning, or whenever you usually get up. You can't tell yourself that you're too tired if you've just slept, right? A schedule is always a recommended tool. Remember: you are reprogrammable software.

6. Take a walk. Sunshine helps too. A shower helps. Any contact with basic elements invigorates us: air, water, fire (sun & food energy), and earth (home). That's the long way to saying: A shower, a walk, and a cup of coffee might help.

7. Do some requests. Doing something for someone else feels good; we've been trained since birth to think so, I guess, and your Id will usually think it sees an angle in it and leave you alone. Most of my best work was made at someone else's suggestion. That's a fact. It's also fertile ground for sudden FIGs.

8. Relax. The stuff that happens to you and me won't dim the sun or change the course of the planets. If we actually want to enjoy ourselves while we're here, it will be best practice to be moderate, to take care of ourselves, to try not to make enemies; to stay flexible and easy-going. Do that, and you are a zen master, and can conquer the world by being a small, but content, part of it. That doesn't mean you can't have a radical idea and go for it with both guns blazing as long as you stay in control of yourself: "When the going gets tough, the tough stay calm."

9. Don't waste your time in the forum reading and writing huge wordy posts. Very important: people sometimes hate long posts full of billschit, others live to read them, but you are just procrastinating and not working. Like I am.

10. If you make Lists, they should always have 10 points. I don't know why.

Hope it helps, my friend.

@Balthasar:  I really enjoyed reading your list, particularly points 9 and 10. Very interesting stuff, regardless of the great humor you've put in it. Are you a kind psychologist or something ? A coach perhaps ? I'll try this method on myself and tell you if it works, dear Dr Balt ;)

In my life I've been and done lots of different things in lots of different places. My first version of this post was very long - half the page - listing all the things I've done. It shocked me; it amazed and amused me, that I, a guy who talks to his cat and drinks far too much Pepsi One, had done so much without even trying.

But, to answer your question: no, I have never, ever, been a coach or a psychologist. I just like to blurt out opinions, like Spock - with the same result, usually: the little "his master's voice" tilt to the head of the listener, followed by continuation of the conversation as if I'd said absolutely nothing. Kids today have a rich cast of fictional role models to bring out their inner nerd; we only had Spock, Spiderman, and Barney from 'Mission Impossible'.

Barney, was the real lead character of that show, you know; he appeared in the most number of episodes. Everyone else on the show walked around jerking people's chains, but Barney was the guy who drilled up through the floor into the safe, melted the gold inside and ran it down a hose into bar-shaped molds, then spray-painted the inside of the safe and plugged the hole just as the Dictator opened the safe, only to find it inexplicably empty. Dude, that's punked. He didn't have to be a human chameleon or be abnormally strong to do it - and he did it all with the best soundtrack on TV playing behind him.

But I digress:

I really do hope my completely unprofessional advice helps you to make more units, or to get your head back on at the right angle. I look forward to seeing it happen. You might also like my civ-version of Kipling's "If" posted >here<, though it's not exactly inspirational. If my advice actually works for you, look me up when you're ready to take requests. :D

:) I appreciate the care it took to compose your post Balthasar. I am a student of philosophy myself. I have listend to Alan Watts lecture on Zen, read many books on varying points of views and perspectives and tolerances in my years and you are 100% correct. I needed to fall in order to get back up properly..the problem was I did not get back up. Today marks the day that I am getting back up.

Setting up the processes, hope to have something to show you soon.
