Biggest disappointment with Warlords

Killjoys! Elitist tastes in music surely defeat the very idea of music in the first place? Music should trigger emotions in people, a response, a recognition within the psyche that it is enjoyable. While I myself will draw the line at euro dance/crazy frog rubbish etc, I am not averse to trying any genre.

The sound of the pneumatic power drill going to work every morning at 6:30 am across the street is triggering emotions in me...real nasty emotions for that bald fat guy that operates it
Does that classify pneumatic power drill sounds as music?

Unfortunately, I would have to say "yes", to this. At least, if the sounds coming from passing cars driven by pimply-faced youths are to be classified as music, then so are pneumatic power drill sounds. We live in strange times...

General Failure

ps. It is also entirely likely that I am getting old...

I personally like the Viking music best... both the diplo ones and the scenario one.

Also the "barbarian" song is great too, and gets me motivated.

I must say though, I liked "Baba Yetu"... made me feel like I was observing the birth of the world and the history of civilizations...

... though, I like the new Lebanese one even more, when I first heard it I was pumped-up and ready to do some warmongering - fitting to the expansion's theme. :D

Baba Yetu is an actual language? I DEMAND A TRANSLATION!!!
Ever heard of Google. Try this.

Search for Baba Yetu TRANSLATION!!!

See what comes up. I just did. And lo and behold the first result was from our very own beloved site.
I'll tell you the first five numbers of the thread are 12368.

EDIT: Count to 10. Never mind, here it is

Originality is good. But if nobody likes your original creation except a handful of intelectual elitists and snobs, you won't get far in life.

They got as far as civilization IV.

You'd characterize us as a handful of intelectual elitists and snobs?

Trust me. It gets far worse than this.

I like "Baba Yetu" and I hate the menu music in Warlords. I am also grossed out by the fat Mongol playing with his thingy - the one he dreams of thrusting into people.

Well, the forums were urging me to post -

so it is time to bring up my big disappointment with Warlords. What is it? What else could it be but losing the "Baba Yetu" music. I do like the new theme, makes me feel vaguely Celtic again BUT the original tune was best.

Discuss.

I initially thought this was sarcastic!

God I hate that Baba Yetu music!!!! When I used to start up vanilla Civ 4 I deliberately turned the volume down on my speakers every time so I wouldnt have to hear it! The Warlords music on the other hand doesnt bother me at all, great compared to one of the most annoying computer tunes ever (for me!) :p

i absolutely hate that baba yetu music. once i heard it the first time i promptly Alt-F4 and changed the intro to Santana 'Europa'.

that warlords music isnt too better neither, but seen as its a warmongerin expansion, there is only one warmongerin song that can be used instead

VooDoo Child BABY!

YEAHH!

if the tune was so bad, why has it been acclaimed across the industry, by scores of fans and communities? Please do not come back on me by saying "i listen to band x/y/z" or "i like Musoband 101" - it shows complete ignorance and lack of understanding on your part entirely! Also, as i'm inciting a flame war, i'll highlight the fact that my post originally was tongue in cheek as a response to the automated "hey, you haven't posted!", but I was incensed by silliness on the part of your good selves.

American Idol is idolized (pun most definitely intended) by scores of fans and communitites and is run by an industry insider himself. Doesn't mean it's any good though. :vomit:

I just mixed my own "chillout" trance for the background music, and go get my beer/Coke/snacks of choice while the initial screens are coming up, so I really don't care too much about the loading music. The sound of the bottle opening is music to my ears while the program starts.:goodjob:

It is the musical equivalent of government cheese, corned beef on white bread with mayo.

Hey - what is wrong with 'government cheese, corned beef ...'

Ugg - I see what you mean.

I don't like that they were cheap and dumped all the Civ III music in the game. I hated the in-game music in Civ III, so I've deleted it all.

Also most of the ingame music is Western music (as in western culture not cowboys, had it been that sort of Western I might have returned the CD), which whilst nice, is a bit odd if you are playing a non-Western civ. It would have been nice if there was some classical Chinese/Japanese/Middle Eastern tracks or possibly some religious-specific tracks.

I like Warlords, although I think the start up interface is somewhat cumbersome and confusing; it took me a while to work out where I loaded a mod, could use a custom map, set up a custom game etc.
There needs, needs, needs, always to be an Earth map and a quick-play EARTH button, I feel.

Regarding the ORIGINAL POST: I was quite disgruntled to see an opening cinematic that wholly centers around a siege tower to find that it hadn't actually been incorporated into the game (save a pathetic CR promotion visual accompaniment that, BTW, functions nothing like a siege tower)

Regarding the music - As my screenname implies, I participate in music quasi-intensively (and, no, I don't play the type of bass that plugs into anything!) Seeing some of the new additions, particularly the Dvorak Slavonic Dances, I had higher hopes for the Civ4 score than Baba Yetu. Although IIRC, the composer was actually a game designer by trade, and will admit that it's not that bad for an amateur (certainly onpar or better than most of my compositions!)
