Binding units together

Is there a way to bind two units together? Like a Settler and an Archer?

This would allow sending the units to a point and have them both take the same route at the same speed -- so that the non-combat unit would ALWAYS have the protection of the combat unit.

They will take the exact same route if 1) they begin in the exact same spot when you send them out, 2) they do not encounter a like unit in their path ( i.e. a worker/settler int the path of the settler, or a combat in the path of the combat unit), and 3) they move the same number of tiles per turn( so no knights with a worker/settler). As for binding them together, I've never seen anything close to that, except for the aforementioned rules. There might be a mod or something for that, though. If you really want them to stay together, you're better off ordering them around each turn.

How can I send a vulnerable unit the the fog? Too often, it seems, that the vulnerable unit moves first and discovers the barbarian.

[1] One hex at a time, so you can retreat if there are barbarians.

[2] Manually, sending the (unfortunately unbound) escort first.

It's a shame there isn't a way to do this. I keep my workers well protected so there's a lot of double movement involved. It would also be nice to attach a great general to a unit. It's also annoying that my naval units can't directly protect embarked units like how my land units can protect civilians. There's always some barbarian trireme with 20 movement hidden somewhere. :(

A lot of the micromanaging has been reduced/eliminated in Civ5. It seems strange that it needs to be done this way.

I agree with Killingmesoftly -- attaching a GG to a particular unit would be a plus (even a puppy can be taught to always stay with one person).
