Greetings all,

I uninstalled civ3: gold last year due to lack of space on my computer, I think I might have messed something up, because now that I've got more space on my computer, I've tried to reinstall the game, and I can't. The autorun comes up, and it still says, 'uninstall.' Everything seems to be uninstalled. I also tried clicking on some of the files on the CD, and a box came up that said that the "binkww32.dll" file was missing, and suggested that the problem could be repaired if I'd reinstall the program... vicious circle, I can't reinstall the program. I understand that there's a way to download this file, and I've downloaded and installed it. Still, the files continue to tell me there's a missing file by that name, and autorun still says my only option is to uninstall.

Any thoughts on how I could fix this? It's driving me crazy! Additionally, I'll be the first to acknowledge that my knowledge of computers is limited (limited in the sense that I do not know how to edit registries, etc.)

Thanks,
J

This is probably because Civ3 files are uninstalled but the registry entries for Civ3 are still in the registry. That's why the installer/autorun thinks that Civ3 is still installed on your computer and so it gives you the option to uninstall

I also tried clicking on some of the files on the CD, and a box came up that said that the "binkww32.dll" file was missing, and suggested that the problem could be repaired if I'd reinstall the program... vicious circle, I can't reinstall the program. binkw32.dll is only used to play bink videos. Civ3 requires binkw32.dll and you're getting that error because you don't have Civ3 installed

Went ahead and had my roommate who knows computers (fingers crossed) enough to edit the registry, and she followed the directions on the Atari site, deleting the Civ3: gold file in the registry. Game still won't let me install the game.

I fear I've made my game obselete to my computer! What should I do?

So is the solution to have someone who knows what they're doing to edit the registry?
Deleting Civ3's registry entries would most likely solve the problem. I'm not sure which entries you have to delete but I think it's install_path and uninstall_path
