Well, after about a week struggling back and forth with civ IV, exchanging my original copy with EB, and getting it to run succesfully only a couple of times, I believe I've finally figured out the symptoms of what has got to be the strangest glitch I've ever encountered in a computer game.

Upon installing (I also have the mis-labelled CD problem with both copies of the game I've had, I can run the game perfectly fine as long as I do not turn off or otherwise reboot (I think suspending the system counts as rebooting in this case). Once I have rebooted, I can no longer run Civilization IV. I cannot even get my laptop ro read the play disk (labeled as the installation disk, of course)-according to Windowsn there arn't even any files on the CD! If I uninstall and then turn around and reinstall Civ IV, I can play...until I turn my computer off again.

Now that I have figured out the problem, it is less of a total show-stopper and more of a major nuicance-Civ IV is a relatively small game in terms of file size by modern standards, so it doesn't take too long to reinstall. However, for obvious reasons, I would like to get a more permenant solution, particularly as my laptop, an Alienware Area 51m fries video cards with some regularity (so far my newly-added external fans have been keeping it under control, but still...) I was wondering if anyone had encountered anything simliar to this, particularly other Alienware owners.
