Black screen

Installed civ3... no problems. Run the game and the screen is black, but sound works. Read something about replacing the binkw32.dll file with the win2k version. Can't find would really appreciate if someone would send it to me, or let me know how i can fix it. Running WINXP.

Doesn't work.... Monitor is new Viewsonic PF17" and it turns off. Please just send win2k binkw32.dll file. Would like to try, hopefully it works.

Actually, under win2k, you need to run win98 emulation, which is what I do. I don't remember exactly how to do this, but try searching it on the microsoft webpage.

Supposingly, it works half of the time..

to activate combability mode you have to activate the right dll
open Start -> Execute -> regsvr32%systemroot\apppatch\slayerui.dll

After that you will find in the properties (right mouse click) another tab where you can activate different comba modes. However, I have tried both and this is not helping.

Guess what, I have also black screen after start and just sound . No need to mention that I am not too happy with it.

As I use standard high quality components I have never faced these kind of problems. So Civ 3 wins the TOP **** award to be the first game having such problems right from the start. When I think this game is the most expensive one I have bought since 2 years the picture of CIV3 is even worse.

Most of the Black Screen of Death problems are caused by your monitor not matching the driver on your system. So Microsoft, wrote a driver that would work with all monitors. This is a problem with civ3, because civ3 uses the maximum settings of the Microsoft Driver. If you can give me DETAILED Information about your video driver and the monitor, Monitor is the most important issue here! I maybe able to write you a driver.

I need all the specs on the monitor, res table, H rate, V rate, etc etc

The screen turning black is one of my two problems.
How do I find these stats for my monitor? I only know that it´s an older model, 15 inch, IBM G41.
Graphic card is NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model64 (driver: nvdisp.drv 4.13.01.2181)

I went to the Atari customer support page for this game (and my OS) and their advice was pretty good. The best thing you can do is to not load, on startup, your other programs.

HOWEVER, that didn't seem to work until I went to my BIOS and set the AGP Graphics Aperature Size to 32 MB. This worked for me. If it doesn't work for you, then reset that Aperature back to the previous setting. Good luck.
