Blasphemy or not?

If someone were to buy a dog or some other animal and name it "Jesus" or "Jehovah" or "Yahweh" would it be interpreted by others as blasphemy or as an act of religious devotion *?

*(Like how naming your kid "America" may be considered an act of patriotism)

It depends on how you meant it. If it was a joke, it's blasphemy. If it's out of affection, I guess it would be okay. Of course, most people would think of it lowly and classify it as blasphemy.

Is this a Mexican dog? They already name people Jesus anyway, so why not doggies?

All the more reason to do it.

If god can't take a joke, he shouldn't have invented Republicans.

I'd consider it funny, but I'm not religious and tire of how seriously religion is taken here in the US. Oh, and blasphemy is a victimless crime.

I don't know why I didn't think of this right away, but my brother has a dog named Buddha. Course, that's not a religion but rather a philosophy or creed so I guess it's not the same thing really.

Jesus is fine as a name I think. The other two are bordering on blasphemous.
What he said.

I'm considering actually doing it one day as a joke but I'm afraid that someone will misunderstand my intention and mistake me for a religious lunatic.
