Blid-01- A ring to rule them all

We cannot capture and keep but we may raze at will
Have missed that we start with agri. Will see if we have a chance with copper

The point is to cripple one civ at the time just enough so they can’t retaliate later, but not completely destroy so that next civ can over expand.

We are going to have a tough time if we start razing holy cities. We may need to clear all cities around holy cities and completely pillage around the holy city but just leave it there with one defender left.

Do y'all mind having me on the "team," but without a roster spot? I think this game is going to be amazing :band: I'll lurk, share my stories, my booze, my ivory, etc... but not play, unless things break down. i.e., y'all want an alt who's in on the discussion? :p If not, I'll lurk quietly :)

I want to have to work that gems (at the river) as soon as possible, that means going for ironworking. Forget religious techs for now,we are creative.
Then hunting...archry, thn fising,sailing,masonry (Great Lighthouse) ....something like that.. and pottery.

I settle in blue circle and see we have dyes. Paris has a very decent palcement with two happy and commerce boosting resources . Remember that this is not initial spot generated by map script

The first AI to appear is Alex. Ehhhmmmm :hammer:
After expansion, the huts gave us gold and a map of the southern area. Nice spots with some resources and flood plains. Alex is close and would certainly beat us for the nice spots if we don't hurry

02-South.jpg

A hut pops another map ... of the inland sea. Pffffbt

And if anyone was thinking the south is nice but those desert tiles are a pity have not seen the north yet. Meet the sahara

03-DesolateNorth.jpg

Since a map give us a view of the southern coast, the first warrior was sent on hut grabbing mission inside lands. He met lions on his road and finally find a hut at the map border. He was greeted by two hostile warriors. At least, he manages to survive and now is woodsman II. Notice that the inland is resource poor. For once, I am happy with that

04-WoodsmanII.jpg

We also met Mansa who came from north and HC (much later, don't know from where)
Buddhism has been founded early. Suspect Izzy to be in the list.

Capital went warrior->partial warrior till size 2->worker
Worker and BW are due next turn. Next tech should depend on whether we have copper or not (I guess not). Working the gems would be nice indeed so yes head for IW

About religion, I don't chase it for culture. Religion helps with happiness, gives intelligence, money (shrine), and helps a lot with diplo. In this game, what are the odds of getting a holy city in the ring ? mediocre at best. It is too late for the early religions, but grabbing one in the future should be a concern

Since I started at turn 2, I played 23 turns to even it.

soooo

EDIT : Oh guess you needed that

And we're off. It seems there are a few spots on the coast around us that aren't looking too bad and others that are looking terrible, like the sahara. I guess we are going to be running out of places to settle a bit earlier in this game than most games.

Must have used all your luck up in our other game blid ;) as you didn't have much luck this time with those huts. A tech would have been nice.

Let's hope there is some bronze within the reach of our ring.

Um.. blid is there a save we can have a look at?

:) been doing too much turnsets between yesterday and today. I am lost :crazyeye:. Link provided

start IW [25]
hindu fidl
pop warrior from a hut
Paris ->warrior-> settler
meet Asoka
settler is ready waiting at the end of our border, ready to claim Iron, if there is one, if not
just settle ne, and start researching for archers, and elephants, forget religion and wonders. Alex has bronze, and Munsa is already touching our border.
If we get iron start getting some military asap.

Alex was damn fast to claim that nice spot SE :sad:

If no iron then capital needs cash to get us to construction quickly. Mine those gems and spam cottages. Hope our archers will stop Alex till then

So the city to the SE is gone? I've got a couple of ideas for the NE. I would have thought that keeping our cities closely spaced as we won't have future opportunities to fill in the gaps would make red dot out next choice. Of course if there is iron, this may well change.

There really is a lack of seafood around us isn't there?

City2.jpg

I'll play this later today. Research, archery towards construction.

The only problem with red dot is where to put the next town? The next site may be almost all the way over to the river. And to be honest, deserts are not that bad. Just one less overall cell to work in the city like mountains.

Where's all the bl**dy seafood when we need it.

next city might be placed 3 NE, 1 E from blue dot, plains.
but before we place 3rd city, id attack Alex. If we have Iron that is. If not...tuf luck

Played 21 turns to bring it to 65 turns. Finished with a couple of barbarians threatening our worker and newly connected iron. Yep, we got iron! :D

(0) Research to 100%, send warrior in Paris to accompany settler and warrior to the West to Paris as it'll be faster that way.
(1) Settler into position. He's undefended but the worker was on goto and moved into a position that let me see that it would be safe to move to the city without being threatened. Putting a worker on goto to an area outside our boundaries is not the most SG friendly thing to do.

Mansa has now put a city on our NW'n borders.

Civ4ScreenShot0084.jpg

(2) Orleans founded. Starts on worker. We need another as there is a lot of worker tasks to do.

(4) Iron working in. Hunting -> Archery selected.
AND WE'VE GOT IRON!! :D

Civ4ScreenShot0085.jpg

(5) We meet another Civ - Hatty.

(7) We are the least advance civ. :rolleyes: We had our suspicions...

(8) I OB with HC at his request. Hunting in, archery started.

(12) Now Mali wants OB. Let's do it and start surveying his territory. Achery finished and Pottery is selected for the cottages and it's on the path towards Construction (cats and 'phants).
Paris: Barracks -> Archer.

(15) Iron connected to capital finally and worker heads to gems.

(17) Paris: Archer -> Axeman.
Orleans: Worker -> Barracks.
Worker in Orleans moves to FP ready to do a cottage when it comes in on the next turn. It spends one turn building a road. I put a sign on the cell to say that one turn on road is done.

(18) Pottery in and Writing started. Chosen as it's on the path to construction and will allow open borders. It's also on the path to Alphabet for trading which we need to get soon.

(20) Warrior comes threatening our iron & worker. I move the archer out of the capital towards the area to offer some protection.

(21) Here's the situation at the gems.

Civ4ScreenShot0086.jpg

I left the worker un-moved to let the next player choose what option he wants to take. Here's how I would deal with it: Move the worker to the archers cell. Promote the archer to combat I and fortify him. Then hope the warrior is stupid and attacks. They normally do attack if they are within 1 cell of a unit. Then move the archer to the jungle cell the warrior is now on when he wins. The archer should then attack our archer in the jungle.

I also didn't revolt to slavery as I didn't want the turn of anarchy while we were rushing techs and had no need to whip. Now we do so I would revolt immediately to slavery allowing the axeman to be whipped if things go sour with the archer.

The jungle is chopped on the gems. I would have a look at the capital city screen to see if the best cells are being worked currently. I had it on the forests to get the city to grow a bit faster. We need to get it's to it's maximum size so we can start working the mines.

Here's the save:

Thinking about it, the worker maybe should go off and do a few turns of something else while the barbarian threat is dealt with.

I didn't see any replies but I can't see why we'd mind someone helping us with anecdotes and booze. :D
