BNW - Venice can annex sometimes

does AI use this bug aswell?

A bit on the side of the topic but I was wondering one thing about Venice (so pardon the highjack).

Say you puppeted city X.

Then civ Z dows you and captures Venice, then I assume the capital moves to city X which is under toy direct control. Now what happens if you liberate Venice? Bug aside.

I played a game last night. I had this happen to me but I don't think this has anything to do with the strategic view since I didn't use it. It's the auto-annex bug that's never been fixed (at least, not for me).

I wish I knew exactly what it was that causes this to trigger because this notification bug happens in all of my games really early. If I press F6 to go to the tech tree and then back out, though, all of my notifications show up (including, in this case, the game forcing me to puppet the city I took as Venice).

Drubell, this bug keeps lingering for us for some reason. If you know how to use the Tuner, drop me an instant message. We created a new tuner tab to track this down, and your feedback with it would be very helpful.

Basically, in the tuner, you select "open tab", navigate to the "debug" folder in Civ V, and select "Game UI". Then while playing, if you notice that the auto-annex bug has occurred (pop ups not displaying), take a look at this tab in the tuner, and it will show you which UI panel is causing the problem.

We've been looking for this one for a while, so if you catch it while playing, please let us know.

I think it only happens if you have pressed F6 during the game. When I realize that some pop ups are not showing, I press F6 again to solve this.

I don't have the tuner but I took a few minutes testing and I think I found it and replicated it with ruin notifications.

If you press F6 to bring up tech tree, then press F6 to leave the tech tree, hitting a ruin would properly bring up notifications.

But if I hit F6 and press ESCAPE to leave the tech tree, then if I hit a ruin, I won't get a notification for it.

So there might be something wrong with using the Escape key when closing the tech tree when it comes to notifications.

Excellent catch! Looks like there were a few "Esc" keys that were not processing properly.

I was playing Venice in the Civilization 5 Brave New World expansion. Attila captured one of my puppeted city states that I acquired via Great Merchant. I captured the city back two turns later and it was a level 1 city under my full operation. I didn't even get the option to puppet it, and it wasn't in revolt as if it were already my city before and I just liberated it. Anyone know how to fix this, or if it is a known glitch that's going to be patched?

Moderator Action: Moved to bug reports.

I have discovered that Venice can annex cities sometimes. The situation I discovered involves CS. Steps included below:

1. Use Great Merchant of Venice to convert a CS into a puppet.
2. DOW an AI player and let them capture the puppeted CS.
3. Recapture the CS and it will be annexed (no option) and not a puppet.

I do not believe this behavior is how it was designed to work.

Well you can also do this:

1. Use Great Merchant of Venice to convert a CS into a puppet.
2. Go into Strategic View and Click the City banner.
3. Click Annex city

without having to wait for it to be taken first, this is a bug that needs to be fixed as well

That is probably it. I really don't know what that feature is supposed to be good for.

My very first click in every game is switch to strategic view. I simply do not understand how guys can handle all this 3D-mess which I see on posted screenshots :crazyeye:

Just quoting myself to use as a bump since the threads merged. If anyone does know this? :)

I figure it would make Venice a regular city under your control, just like if you re-capture, say, New York as America, it'll automatically be your city, with no option to puppet or annex.

As another bug to add, there appears to be a way to purchase tiles in puppets. I'm not sure exactly WHEN to click, but if you click on the puppet city screen at a certain time during AI turns, it lets the "purchase tile" screen come up. I'll try to figure out the specifics of it.

Then you will have two of them probably?

Well, there is always the yield and hex tooltips.

Because some of us have advanced beyond 1991. ;)

Stop reminding me of my youth.

One more:

Take an opponent's city through standard military action as Venice. Select the 'raze the city' option. Then, go into the new city's panel and stop the city razing. The city will be under direct rule.

Regarding strategic view: it's a great way of spotting resources on the map, with other icons and fog of war turned off.
