BNW won't launch, DirectX problems

Exactly what the title says. When I click to launch the game, the screen where you chose the DirectX9 or DirectX10/11 pops up but then freezes. Windows first checks for a solution for a problem but is unable to come up with a solution. If I'm quick and click before this message sows up (it delays around a second) then it just does nothing.

Anyone know how I could possibly fix this? I've tried exiting and restarting steam, restarting my computer, verifying integrity of game cache, updating my DirectX but it's up to date. I've also tried to Run As Administer and that didn't work either. So once again, any suggestions?

Ugh. I've had that DirectX bug sooo many times on programs under Win 7. I never did find a solution. All the stuff recommended online failed, and I wound up wiping my hard drive and reinstalling everything.

I've since moved on to Win 8, and haven't had that problem once.

Could you give me some additional info? Does the freeze happen before or after you select a version (9 or 11)?

It will happen before I click the DirectX options. Another thing, last night when it did the DirectX9 update I only had 18 steps, but when I was looking around here people were saying they had 45 steps. Could that influence it? The launcher worked before the update.

I have found a kind of fix. I just went into my CivsV files through my local disk, then steam, etc... and clicked on the CivilizationV_DX11.exe right from there and it launched. Looks like the launcher isn't even needed at all, so I'm just going to avoid it. Thanks for the help.

DX9 not working for me. I am validating my steam files.

No go, it says DX9 is not responding, so I can't get past the loading screen.

I will try to uninstall and reinstall the game. I am at the library and do not have my original civ 5 disc. So, hopefully steam has all my files in order.

I cannot load the game on my laptop via DX9. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall, after validating the game files. Has anyone found a fix for this yet?

It works I was just not waiting long enough for it to load. Impatient I guess. It looks great.
