I can now build bombers and fighters - but they cannot move from the city I built them in. I even built airports...

This game is not that intuitive...

Notice when you select a unit that there are a bunch of little circles with designs in them at the bottom of the screen? Those are the orders buttons for that unit -> ie. all the options of what it can do. How's that for intuitive?

Ask all the stupid questions you want. I for one am happy to answer questions. Just don't try to blame the game by saying it isn't 'intuitive'.:)

There are a couple spots that I probably still wouldn't know about if I didn't have access to Civ 3 message boards, even after playing for two months. How to cancel a trade, for example.

It's a complicated game.

Well, actually, it often isn`t! There's so many options that don`t show up in the circles.... and the build queue comands also aren`t accessible via the mouse and aren`t displayeed as icons. You have to know them by heart.... :(

Question: what's the logic behind preventing a bomber/fighter from distroying a ship? When I use an airplane against a ship it will only allow a bombing run if the ship has more the 2 hit points left. Same for other units. Planes should be able to destroy a unit. what 'm I missing.

PA in NJ:confused:

Yep, that`s stupid! But on the other hand a ship can shoot back at the Bomber, can`t it? So you`ll just ahve to go to the editor and change it so planes can attack, then it`s solved.....

Thanks for the response. For some reason didn't think about the editor as a way to get around it. I'll try that tonight.

Does anyone have an idea for the logic behind the rule. I know, BIG assumption here: that logic is involved.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Paul

it comes from the bombard - attack split without which you`d loose the rather realistic option to wwear your opponent down before attacking him - without that outdated units would simply be worthless, but now even catapults+bowmen can fight down modern armour.... in theory, that is..... usually, the AI simply attacks with 3 bowmen and wins :)

The bomber vs. ship thing initially annoyed me. But, I think it is OK for play balance.

The AI has a tendency to have overwhelming numbers of units. If you tried to approach his shores with a landing fleet you would be decimated before you reached the shore.

For fleet vs. fleet action, aircraft carriers with bombers become critical for success and overcoming attrition.

With the 1.7 patch, cruise missile can now sink ships when targeting them with 1 hit point left.

I'd love to be able to carry a few cruise missiles on a sub.

IRONIKINIT -- to answer your trading question... pull up the civ and look under "current" (or whatever it is called) at the bottom right of the trade dialogue. This will show you the trades you have going with that civ. It will show up in blue if you have the ability to renegotiate it. NOTE: once you click on it... you've cancelled it and set it up for immediate renegotiation. Becareful if you have a great deal going.
