Is it possible to give a civ a bonus to food or production for a specific terrain type? Also is it possible to give a unit Mountain Walking? or a civ the ability to work mountain tiles?

Yes, the Lanun have extra food from see squares and -1 food for farm.

Also is it possible to give a unit Mountain Walking?

Yes, Rangers have it, Druids have it, Beastmasters have it, it is possible.

the ability to work mountain tiles?

I would think: make a UU worker with the mountain walk ability and some improvements for it, woila.

BTW, why the Khazad have no such high-pike mines?

Wasn't there one version of CIV that allowed you to improve mountain tiles? It took longer than hills, but I believe you could build mines on or in the mountains. I think that would be nice to do something like that with those mountain tiles - although they can be great for defense/blocking too.

One other thing I thought of, but not related: Why not a small bonus if you got all three: sheep/cows/pigs or corn/wheat/rice? A kinda Super Smokehouse or Granary? Not a big bonus as they can be fairly easy to get, but maybe something like a small food boost to each city in the civ.

As far as I recall, you could improve mountains in both civ 2 and 3. Dunno about Civ one, I never played it.

I was thinking the same thing about the Khazad and I was also thinking that it might be nice if each civ got bonuses for the type of terrain it normally inhabits and possibly reduce the normal bonuses. so that Civs who thrive in lets say the desert get a bonus to food and/or production there.

And isnt it the ability to cross impassible terrain? I was hoping to have it more speciallized and only allow walking mountains and not other types of impassible terrain

I kinda like that Mountains are worthless in the sense of workability. Makes the other terrain better in contrast.

Also, I LOVE that mountains are impassable. I'm not sure I like that some Recon units can cross it.

I too love impassable mountains although I don't mind that some units can cross them. I also like the idea of some workers being able to build in mountains although I think it should be limited to roads only with a real high build time.

I am just thinking that you would think that since in reality most mines sit in the side of mountains that they should be workable by at least the Khazad who are supposed to live in them. If they can mine tunnels through them they can certainly work them

I wish that a promotion would allow units to move through impassible terrain instead of having it as a trait of specific units.

I personally think that mines, quarries, and roads should be buildable there, but very slowly and perhaps with some restrictions. I think that it should perhaps be limited to dwarves and/or those RoK civs using Arete. I would like it if these roads would make the terrain possible but only to units with the RoK promotion (see the first thread I ever started, Improving Infrastructure)

ps, civ III had passible mountains, while Civ IV has no mountains, but peaks which are impassible

In RFC the Inca's unique power is that they get 2food and 1 hammer from peak tiles. that might be kind of cool for khazad.
