Howdy everybody, this thread is all about Borderlands 2! Basically, we can post screenshots of the awesome loot we find, organize coop sessions, etc. all from the comfort of CFC. Now, some of you may be asking "What is Borderlands 2?" Well, with a little help from my friend wikipedia, I can give you an idea.

Spoiler :
Borderlands 2 is an upcoming space western first-person shooter/action role-playing video game and the sequel to 2009's Borderlands. It is currently under development by Gearbox Software for the Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms.
Borderlands 2 builds upon the gameplay elements introduced in its predecessor. It is a first-person shooter that includes character-building elements found in role-playing games, leading Gearbox to call the game a "role-playing shooter." At the start of the game, players select one of four new characters, each with a unique special skill and with proficiencies with certain weapons. From then on, players take on quests assigned through non-player characters or from bounty boards, each typically rewarding the player with experience points, money, and sometimes a reward item. Players earn experience by killing foes and completing in-game challenges (such as getting a certain number of kills using a specific type of weapon). As they gain levels from experience growth, players can then allocate skill points into a skill tree that features three distinct specializations of the base character.
Returning gameplay features from the first game will include the 3-branch skill trees, class-mods, and four-player online cooperative modes. New features include a more expansive and customizable weapons system, reworked four-seat drift-able vehicles and vehicle physics elements, and dynamic quest systems. For example, taking too much time to save a friend in a quest may result in their death and the failure of the quest, which will affect the story as the player progresses. Technically, the game world will be all connected, rather than loadable levels for each region, allowing accurate viewing of the entire world from a given point rather than the first game's premade "Skybox."
In addition, the AI system has been reworked for the game. Non-enemies will populate the game world more often and will travel around different locations depending on the time. Enemy AI will encourage teamwork, such as flanking, as well as taking cover when wounded, though lower level enemies like Psychos will still embrace the mentality of, "Wow that's a gun! I want my face in front of it," according to Gearbox VP Steve Gibson. Shooting enemies will stun or cripple them depending on where they are shot. For a change, enemies will be intelligent enough to climb and traverse difficult terrain to pursue the player. Enemies will also be able to interact with each other. For example, certain enemies can heal their teammates, boost their shields for defense, or use them as shields to protect themselves.

Also, there are a couple of trailers to oogle at for a little while.

So, yeah. Currently [TIMER="09/18/2012 GMT"][/TIMER] until the US launch, until then, hype!

Quality game. Be nice if we could get our group together on a consistent basis, though.

Crezth took the picture. I'm Aniketos, Matt0088 is Matt, and Kraznaya is Kraznaya.

That's the problem with these games. They're awesome, but you need to basically dedicate characters to specific groups and not play them outside of this group. Once you're 5-10 levels behind it's kind of useless. And people don't seem to have the attention span to actually make it to the maximum level with the consistent group. Playing with strangers is a bit iffy with the free for all loot system too.

I am disappointed they didn't expand the skill system.

Overall, it is more of the same polished up with more guns, more enemies, more vehicles, more varied locations, etc. The biggest change is that there appears to be an actual story (though it is still just run around shotting up people). As a person who loved Borderlands, it is great, but if you wanted something more you are out of luck.

I can settle for this for a second game (from any franchise), but I expect something to change and improve the gameplay for any future titles and the most obvious spot is the skills, more active skills and more interesting passives (no more "Increase magazine size by 5%").

I am playing as a Siren because Lilith was the only one I never played in Borderlands (granted I didn't play much of Brick because I didn't like the intended play-style as I hate launchers and avoided melee). My next character will be Gunzerker (probably once a bunch of DLC are out). Phaselock is so powerful, especially against Badasses, just take them out of the battle while you mop up the fodder and they are much less of a threat.

I think I purchased the original ages ago but never tried it.

Lemme spend a few months with that one and I'll get back to you.

The first one for me was so meh that I'm very hesitant to purchase this one. Is it worth it just for single player?

I agree in that skills could have more variety, but I think it is improved greatly from the first game. Now I feel as though my skill choices help to shape the way I want to play rather than going for a general "best build" that the first game had to a degree for each character

Well, the environments aren't as brown this time, there are more enemies, and I think the game is a bit more fast paced than before. Also, loot seems to be rarer, and skills, in my opinion, have been improved. I haven't gotten too far into the game, so my opinions are subject to change.

That was the game's main thang. That it was Diablo meets Fallout. But no dice, purchased it but never tested it.

I don't see how the skills really changed at all. most of them are very similar to those of Borderlands and a number are identical. The fact that it has only been out a few days means that optimal builds haven't been developed yet and they will be, however it remains to be seen how balanced the skills are. Both in terms of viability and their affect in game (for example the Sniper's ignore shields skill was utterly overpowered at the end game of Borderlands). I will say I think the three new active skills are better than the three they removed, although Phaselock may be too good.

Unless you have some friends that want you to play it with them, then I would pass on it until it is on sale if you weren't a fan of the original. It is very much iterative, just Borderlands with improvements all around. There is nothing really new to the game.

Just 2 guns I found yesterday.

This one is pretty terrible, but I thought it looked nice

This, on the other hand, has been very kind to me as of late, I find it helpful for getting rid of groups of spiderants.
