• You have reached at least 1 AD in your game, OR
 • You have submitted your entry

Use this thread to tell us what happened in your game, up to 1AD! How well are you coping on a crowded map? Have you 'resettled' any neighbours?

Posting Restrictions

 • Please do not disclose ANY events or information gained post 1 AD.
 • Please do not reveal your final result if that happened after 1 AD.

Botm110 notes
Goals: Oracle CS, build lots of cities. 1 of 2 accomplished.

Settled on plains hill to SE. Argh, SIP would have been much better. But I like having capital coastal.
Argh, orphaned fish to East. I hate fish that can't be worked. (I couldn't see the island to the east until capital border popped 4th time. (near 1AD) And didn't notice it for a while).

The BC battles. Beat wolf, beat bear, lost to bear, beat panther, chariot lost to warrior, chariot moved next to axe and beat it on defense,
noticed a tile not in spawn busting net, moved chariot next to it, hello mr spearman, chariot lost to spearman
see screenshots (warrior killed chariot at <20% odds, happened in NW corner, that map view is in east)

800 BC 4 Cities, Oracle Civil Service

huts: 35 gold, map, hostile warrior (who kills my chariot!)

events: slave revolts (why do they keep happening in same city?)

ready to Quarry NE marble – oops, I don't know Masonry yet

---
1AD:
6 Cities, pop: 7, 6, 5, 5, 5, 1

Wonders: Oracle (825 BC), GLH (500BC), Mausoleum (125 BC). Pyramids (building), Colossus (building);
BIAFAL: Stonehenge (1680 BC), Great Wall (1000 BC)

Great People: Great Prophet built Kong Miao

Deckhand, what terrible luck with barbarians. Now I feel guilty for not losing any units - my W1 Scout even managed to defend against a Warrior by sitting in a forest to spare me from having to whip a defender.

I did not realize goody huts were on, and was really blessed by the savages with free Bronze Working and a couple piles of gold. Events were less kind, so far I have had a handful of moderately annoying ones including the food loss event and a destroyed dye plantation (which actually caused a few turns of unhappiness as I was at the cap in two cities).

With Marble and safety, I decided to play an isolated Culture game, and have not met any AIs. A trio of Axes was all it took to de-fog the full island with the Creative border pops clearing fog quickly. Most of the game has been spent working cottages, building wonders, and trying to snag up religions. As of 1AD I have 5 cities (10/10/8/3/2 pop) and have built Stonehenge, Oracle, ToA, Parthenon, MoM and Sistine Chapel. One Academy and one Confucianism Academy are up. Pyramids are slowly on their way. I founded Judaism, Confucianism, and Taoism and should found Christianity in a few turns if no one scoops it. Researched 24 techs, way out of order from a normal game (no Alphabet or Currency). I ran one Golden Age right after MoM finished and have two Great Artists stashed.

Not having even played an isolated start with huts, I started wondering about "saving" them (once they were all popped of course). Do huts continue yielding techs once all the early ones are discovered? My thought was that it might have been possible to leave the huts undisturbed until the AD years and then pop Education or something. It would probably not even be the best play as it would be hard to keep Creative cities from popping the huts anyway, but just a random thought. This is why I love Civ IV - I must have played ten thousand hours and still don't fully understand what I'm doing.

at 1ad I have 8 cities.... and am wonder whoring!

I also decided to have a crack at a Culture game. At ~3300 BC I realized Hindu hadn't gone yet so I switched from Wheel to have a go, got it in 2840BC. Missed Judaism by 1 turn, but I have Confused & Toaism.

Wonders: Stonehenge, Oracle, SoZ, GLH & Mids... Parthenon, Maoi & NE currently under construction.
BIAFAL: ToA & GW

@Minou, here is the list of techs you can get from Huts... it used to be a bit of a wheeze to get Optics and hope to get Astro from a hut (its the best tech available).
