BOTM 69 -Rome- First spoiler to 1AD

If they say. We have our reasons when you look if they trade the tech they are building a wonder that tech unlocks.
 :thanks:
so, they say that when they are actually building the wonder; not just able to and thinking about it (I previously missed that subtlety)

I follow a specific way lately, which is to get up Cottages as early as possible, and to beeline Alpha, to be able to see whether going for Oracle is worth it or not.
Seraiel, do you ever play vanilla? Try the latest GOTM. No trading is an unintended option - you might want to play a different approach. ;)

Thx, but I'm just playing the most interesting game there is a Marathon Time Victory :D

No, honestly: I may start on playing some more GOTMs in the near future, however, until now I'm happy with playing BTS only. I'd see no sense in playing the vanilla version with newer (and better) vesions already being available. I know I'll have to, because I need 2 Space-race wins for EQM (BTS = Space Colony ) , but it's not something I'm keen on.

Back playing civ for the first time in 8 months or so. Bit rusty but things went OK. Settled 1E on turn 2 after initially wanting 1SE but then changing my mind.

I have 5 cities of my own and captured 2 French. I have 15 or so prats who will be going for their 3rd French city shortly. May take peace then...?? They are offering quite a few techs. I've been quite fortunate in my fights so far, I have maybe 3 more prats than would be expected. They've just turned up with war elephants (no idea where from - trade??) which will slow things slightly. I have no catapults which is another reason I may take peace soon. I don't think they will pose much of a threat with the cities they will have left, but this is Immortal, and getting rid of them completely will make diplo simpler... I'll see how it goes. I also have no plan whatsoever beyond this.

My own economy kinda crashed, I forgot how to manage it properly. Was running on negative cash at 0% science slider. Then I remembered fail gold and that we were industrious. I actually nearly finished the Pyramids but lost out in 150BC - the failgold got me to currency right on 1AD. The other problem is happy cap. Monty helped a ton by trading fur to me. Priesthood will be done next turn so I'm hopeful of then being able to trade for Monarchy which will allow much bigger cities thanks to HR and that wine. Ivory is 1 tile outside my empire - if I had been thinking about the happy cap some more I would've settled closer to it... and finally the Celt are spreading buddhism throughout my empire - trying to hold off switching to it until they ask, for the relations bonus.

I have quite a few cottages so once the happy cap is dealt with I should be growing my cities, growing my cottages and have a decent economy again.

I'm surprised that most people chose to attack SB first.
SB is peaceful, SB is protective. Napo is treacherous, Napo is not protective... I attacked Napo.

That was my thinking too, along with
- dog soldiers are a pain vs praetorians, and
- Napoleon is more likely to be a danger later in the game, where SB tends to fade.

Napoleon was easily containable on this map and once SB is gone the NW quarter is easily defendable with minimum of units. So it was a easy choice....and Napoleon was next.
