Original plan was to play peacefully and try for a fast space ship victory. Well fast for me.. So once I realised it wasn't going to be a very fast victory aquick change to kill mode. Ended up wiping out both DG and Stalin. Vassalling the rest for a conquest 1785AD. Not fast but quite satisfying after my previous WOTM. :)

Just did my first GOTM, and it was great fun, but its really hard to adjust your playing style. I only play diety games, so i completely misjudged the need of force to win here. Ended up with a slow domination at 1740, but will be much quicker for my next submission.

Also I have a question. Near the end Civ4 crashed in the game, and I had to take the latest autosave to get closest to where I was. So I did have to play 2 turns over. I did not have any advantge from it, but does that make my game invalid?

Hi Arabersimon and welcome to the GOTM.

If your game crashes, you should contact either AlanH or the member of staff responsible for the game (in this case me) by PM to let them know what happened. In this case I'll take your statement here as equivalent to a PM ;)

We usually do accept games where a crash happened - because we know that kind of thing is unavoidable, and in the end we are here to run a friendly competition that should be *fun* for people. But if people don't contact us, or if their explanation doesn't match what we see in the logs of their game, we'll tend to get quite suspicious...

We would also ask you, going forward, to change your Civ autosave settings to save every turn - that way you'll never have to replay more than a single part-turn.

1675AD Diplo.

Thought I was going to have to kill Stalin for more pop, but he attacked me before the second vote and I was able to get Roos / Bis to DoW...which gave me barely enough votes.

Not a tough game to win, but difficult to get a good date on this one for Prince.

Surprised how long this took. Built GW and Pyramids early and concentrated on building a solid civ. Beelined for rifles and then for mining company. Focused on production and units. Had a big tech lead, etc., but it was still a slog.

Thanks Dynamic Spirit! I run Windows Vista (yes I know!) on an old machine, so some crashes are to be expected I guess, but Civ 4 have been almost surprisingly stable. I will change the autosave thing for next GOTM, and remember to PM if it happens again.

I defeated the French after they built me the GLH and the Pyramids. I knocked out the Russians soon after that. I got the Great Library from the Russians. I built up infrastructure for a while and took out the Spanish and Dutch in a blaze of tactical nukes. It was a 1989 Domination win.

Space Victory in 1932AD (37,686)

Not much to say, I am still learning the right order to do things in a Space game, especially properly managing Great People, using Corporations efficiently and researching the techs in the right order at the end.

At Prince, the AIs did not really do much. I conquered Stalin very slowly in the 1500s or so, having not brought enough troops on the first shipment. Conquered Isabella in the 1800s very quickly with Infantry and Tanks and stopped there to focus on the economy. Hope to improve the space launch next time. This game was a bit of a relaxing one after the last Emperor Warlords game.

1836 AD space victory

I tried my first Sushi game and boy did this game take me some time... 30 hours! A first for me. :crazyeye:

In the end: a bit disappointed by date and score...

EDIT: the slow game might just be due to the fact we had literally zero trading partners. Gifting the AIs all my techs would have meant a less ambitious Lib target, but at least they might have tech'ed something... :dunno:

- Astronomy in 1100 AD: improve this date is still being a great difficult to me :undecide: (although I have already achieved a good progress :smug:)
- Circumnavigated in 1240 AD: I used two Caravels in two directions.
- In the end it was not necessary to declare against the American Empire (De Gaulle was killed and the others became vassals).

- This game was my first attempt with Sid’s Sushi. I liberated one city to avoid Domi and got some cities with this Corporation. But during this period I did not see a significant change in my Score. Domination came with lapse :mischief:. After that I kept the game a little more and got more cities with Sushi. But the Score reached till 118k and began to decline again. The detail here is that I don’t know :dunno: how work this improvement in the Score and how much will be the increase ???

But hey! It was just the first step :p…

conquest 1615
score 137229

after my race to optic, i vas de gaulle then teched astro to attack america with cuirs then cav when i bulbed riffling with lib.
After that facing only mediaval units, it was only a matter of time before i cap in order frederic, netherland, russia then spain.
only tricky point was the forced peace from AP while talking AP city the previous turn. i should have razed this damned thing, i would have gained few turns.

I played well until i start attacking spain and russia were i played too fast and did several mistakes.

To be noticed my biggest misclick: my GE, i was so upset to get it (2nd GP : 1 turn of eng specialist in an pure scientist pool ) that i misclicked on bulb option by mistake :( moment of pure hatred against no reloading option...

I read spoiler topics before game, so cant contest. Anyway, finished by domination 1620. 141k score. I had 9 my сities in 1ad, I already started building swords when saw that France's workers built road on iron tile. So i declared war not prepared, and he slaved a lot archers. I had 20 swords after war, but couldnt do anything vs Stalin becouse he had about 10 triremes. Take astro with liber and run to rifling. Wars were very quick, all AI give up after taking 1-2 cities.

If you are interested in a big score, try getting 100 cities (just pack useless cities in between your existing ones), all of them with sushi. And try to do it soon, so that you can win before 1650AD.

My first game of the month!

This took some time though. 286 Turns in about 9hours30mins. I made 3 major mistakes.
1. I moved my first worker by accident out of my territory (thout it was one of my warriors) and got
him killed by a panter:cry:
2. I rushed de gaulle a little to early, which slowed my research down quite a bit
3. wanted to build HE for failgold and completly forgott it.

it took me quite a while to win domination. I thought my continet and issys and willems whould be enough but i came out with about 59,93 %, though i had to kill of stalin too. I was to lazy to plan ahead which meant shipping all my forces around the world. bummer! but I had a lot of fun.

Question: should I have gotten optics before CS

personnaly, i rushed optic before CS for tech trade.
unfortunatly, those post optic trades were not that great (prince AI do not tech very fast :/ ) .
I think CS first could have been better.

Initial moves in the spoiler box.

In a nutshell, my stack of doom going at de Gaulle didn't have enough doom in it (or maybe she wasn't stacked enough ...). Got bogged down against dG, and Roos started teching like mad.

Easier time vassaling Stalin, and had Bis and Roos at about +7 and +9. But Bis decides to abstain in the early 1909 election, and it takes til 1954 for him to finally vote for me.

How long do you have to be in his favorite civic to get any brownie points for it? Even after 50 turns, no benefit.

When I built UN, Izzy declared and sent the destroyers and transports. I had only wooden navy, but was able to draft infantry (Bismarck's favorite civic) and make art. Got destroyers and subs soon after, and those with airships sent the WWII Spanish Armada to DJL (hint: think high school storage). First time I ever used subs much, a pleasant surprise. She did capture one small coastal city, but did not raze it and I retook it easily.

I don't have the exact numbers, but the AI also has to be in the civic. That's my guess why you didn't get any +diplo modifier.

My first city was set in a horrible location.

Long, terrible-tech wars with French and Russians. Finally eliminated Staling around 1550AD with catapults/HA/swords/axes/spearmen.

Once that had all happened, and I had Forbidden Palace up in Russia, I kicked off a golden age or two, saw my tech rate treble and flew through the tech tree. Before long I invaded Spain/Netherlands and stomped them, mostly with cavs but some redcoats too. I invaded America for lols and ended up with a domination victory with 79% pop and 74% land or something like that, in 1832AD.

Not going to compete with anything, but with the sheer amount of time and effort I put in versus France and Russia, I felt an obligation to complete it, so there we go. :)
