BOTM 81 First Spoiler - 1AD

This is the thread to discuss how your game went up to 1AD (not later).

How did you go against the cream puffs?
Already finished the game 2 weeks ago and cannot remember? Sorry, that's my fault.

I took the Adventurer save so disclaimer there. That said, best game ever for me and I'm sure there will be some huge scores on this one.

With the early UU I pushed as hard as ever for an early war. Usually I build 3-4 cities in good locations get a barracks in 2-3 of them and then start prepping for war. This time I built only 2 cities initially and then went after the UK decaring in 1520 BC or about 1750 years earlier than ever. Results were great and the UK was dead in 1160 with me now owning her 3 cities all of which were in locations I thought good.

I attacked the Dutch in 750 BC (2nd war and still not to the ADs...wow) and made a beeline for their capital which fell shortly after. That pushed me to 2nd in the standings but I didn't have enough forces to crack the next city with the archers they rushed so I gave peace and circled around to the Germans.

Attacked Germany and took Hamburg around 250 BC and pressed on for Berlin. I picked up Feudalism about that time and talked Germany into Capitulating around 200BC +/-. Time to turn on the USA.

Declared on USA around 100 BC (holy smokes 4th war already!!!) and as the 2 closest cities were on hills I pressed on towards New York because USA got Longbows right at this time.

By 1 AD I was 2nd in score (India was first) and had 8 cities (built 3 total) with 58 population. I was actually making some gold (34 pt) at 0 tech and looking at a potential Capitulation from USA in 5-10 turns. A possible victory in the 500s-800s seemed shockingly within reach.

I did the challenger save and decided to skip an early war. Given the large number of high yield tiles I did an unusual opening for me: worker-worker-3 war chariots and a warrior-settler at size 6. I figured the first settler might come later than usual, but I would catch up in expansion quickly.

Unfortunately I made a pretty awful mistake and lost my third city to a barb archer. What's worse is I forgot the archer could use the roads in my former territory so I gave up two workers the next turn :cringe:. No doubt this will delay the victory, but the capitol was so productive I just resettled the city and was still in good shape. Ended up with 9 cities sometime before 1ad.

Went Aesthetics-Lit. Built the Parthenon in the capitol, National Epic in a 2 wheat city on the set of four hills east of the capitol. Espionage showed Liz would beat me to Music so I backed up and went for COL, bulbed Taoism.

Switching into Hindu for OR provoked Buddhist Willem to attack, but it was an easy defensive war, and I bought him off with Meditation. I had already started building temples and missionaries during the war, and now Music will be completed just after 1ad. Planning to go Buero next follow lib path and build Sistine's in capitol (decided on cultural obviously).

Stole 3 workers from Washington - long walk back home each time...

1240 BC War on England, dead 975 BC, 3 cities :)
750 BC War on Germany, dead 475 BC, 5 cities :)

Then I had my eyes set on America and the Pyramids
I declared 75 BC and then found out he just got LBs
I took 3 cities losing about 12 War Chariots and decided to wait for cats, but I only just got construction so the Mids will have to wait some time.

At 1 AD I have 19 cities and a settler on the road (will be settled in 2 turns), economy is bad of course but I do have Currency and CoL.

I did the challenger save and getting to third place on deity in the BC make me feel pretty confident on the game. But I do not think I have time to finish it.
