BOTM 88 (Hammurabi) Final Spoiler - Game finished

Wow~ T180 is insanely late for Deity AI lib! I still dont understand what gimped the AI research SOOOO much this game?! Maybe I could have held off for Libbing Medicine as well. Probably would have saved 2 turns on my Incorporation dates, which may have cut two turns on my launch date, but with some AI already having Education, I did not want to take the risk that one of them could get Liberalism in 6 turns, and snatch it away from me by a turn.

Since I waited to trade for Calender, I missed out on the MoM. I would have loved to have it, but it would have delayed my corporations beeline, so I decided to pass.

I usually try for 4 GA from great people (+ that from Taj when reasonable, but here I did not have the production to build Taj.) The 4 GA's were planed for:

1-Right around corporation, for mega revolt into Rep, cast system, free market, free religion.
2-To revolt into emancipation when the happy penalty became too much.
3&4- final 16 turns before launch.

Unfortunately, I had some bad luck with GP production late, and got too many scientist and engineers, so the distribution for the 4-person GA did not happen, and I had to end the game with only an 8 turn GA. On the flip side, I was able to bulb 4 great scientist (and settle a GE), which cut 3 turns of research. With better distribution, I would have had an extra 8 turns of GA, but 3 less bulbs. That is just about equivalent, so it probably did not matter much.

Yeah, AIs were incredibly slow at research. IIRC when I finally libed Medicine none of AIs even had Education. Guess that endless wars againts Monty and Brennus took it's toll.

As for GAs, for 4 of them you would need 1+2+3+4 10 GPs and since later GSs are popping one after another the 4th GA seems like too much hassle. Imho it's better to build Taj, even without marble. Had to settle last 2 GSs (along with 2 low odds GEs) because you can't bulb Fusion without Laser :(

"2-To revolt into emancipation when the happy penalty became too much."

That might be one of my many mistakes - I stay in Caste System and try to get more happiness.
Spoiler :
Emancipation might be the most useless and annoying "feature" in CIV

I would certainly build Taj without marble, but this game I did not have a production city to give me a decent shot at it (I traded for nationalism as well).

A late game GA usually knock 2 or 3 turns off the launch date. That is roughly the same as the 4 bulbs.. It depends on what mix you get. I had spy/artist/priest pollution in my gene pools. Had they spawned, then the 4th GA is better than anything else you can do with them.

Yeah, I try to stay in caste as long as possible, and deal with the Happy problem, but at some point, it becomes impossible to get enough alternative happy sources to compensate, and you have to cave in...

Thanks for the game. It was good fun and thanks to the relative isolation I actually survived until the 1800s when I lost to Joao who launched his space ship.

When I was able to start building my own Apollo I started to think I might have a shot at my first ever Deity win. However Monty attacked me with a dozen destroyers and wiped out my fishing industry. I was able to retake the one city he took but whipped my cities like crazy to do it and effectively ended my chances.

Thanks again for the game.

12 minutes? That's not good for your heart at our age, DH! ;) 1814 is a pretty nice date for any victory condition. You should definitely do the writeup!

Unfortunately couldn't finish this one. Made it to 1340AD with an excellent position. Conquered the whole of China with cannons, took a first bite out of Portugal, close to 30 cities and a small tech lead. Deity war is rather time consuming though. Thanks for giving a generous start and an interesting game. :)
