Use this thread to tell us what happened in your game, up to 1AD! How did it go?
Had any wars?
Conquer any Civs?
Build any Wonders?
Access the resurces you need yet?

Stop! If you are participating in BOTM 92, then you MUST NOT read this thread unless EITHER
  • You have reached at least 1 AD in your game, OR
  • You have submitted your entry

Posting Restrictions

  • Please do not disclose ANY events or information gained post 1 AD.
  • Please do not reveal your final result if that happened after 1 AD.
  • Please do not discuss the location of resources that may not show up before 1 AD. (Iron is OK, coal and oil are not)
  • Please do not reveal names or locations of any civilization not accessible by galleys.
  • Do not post any savegame file from the game. Discussions and screenshots are fine but not actual games

As this is my first try, bear with me. I just started playing over Noble level so this challenge is proving quite interesting.

- I did not expand very fast at the beginning as I was afraid of having to fend off Ai with special units while having nothing.
- I lost SE but secured the Mids and have been playing in HR and Slavery since. Losing the mids would have had me abandoned by now, I think.
- I did not go for a religion until I was sure of who were my neightboors.
- Capital is strong (Bureaucracy incoming)
- I had a big set back in the form of a Technology theft failure that costed me a lot (tried to steal Mathematic). I got unlucky and going for this without any Spying enhancement was foolish to say the least.
- I'm about to set off exploring the islands and Construction will be next.
- I have a monopoly on HB Riding and hope to use these along Catapults in my invasions

Huyana Capac Will be my target, he holds both Holy City of the continent and although I'm not sure about the presence of two shrines, I feel that caping that cap will catapult me to a victory.

Some have metals already, I don't. I hope this won't be a deal breaker for me.

Hi, thanks for the report! HA/hwachas can usually do the job... just be sure to bring enough of them.;)

BTW- I think you missed this point:
Do not post any savegame file from the game. Discussions and screenshots are fine but not actual games

Point was indeed missed... edited :crazyeye:

Got Pyramids in capital, Great Lighthouse in 2nd city. Purposely made that city coastal, built 2 galleys and went off exploring the islands.

Ghengis of India (makes me LOL just typing that) had already pinched the "best" iron spot, so took the consolation prize of copper.

There's 4 Hindus, 1 Buddhist and one Jew in game, so playing it "safe" and not taking religion. Representation means its not a big loss really.

Ghengis is annoyed with me, due to close borders, though Lincoln is his worst enemy (Lincoln is in fact EVERYONE's worst enemy: maybe he's been offering the peace pipe too often). I see Ghengis has quite a few horse archers, he's probably slightly stronger than I. But that'll soon change.

Next steps: build axes + spears and "liberate" some (ideally all) Ghengis' land. If we succeed, victory should be certain.

Yup everyone hates Lincoln here too!

Capac of the Aztecs has an amazing 3 cities!!! Too busy building wonders and establishing religions.

I took CoL with Oracle (insanely late date, 1000 BC?). Converted Genghiz & the Portuguese, but then Genghiz changed to Hinduism. As all but 2 on the map are Hindus - and one of them are the Portuguese who I don't even share a border with - I converted too when I was able, a few turns ago.

Have researched as for as maths and currency now. Monarchy in next turn. Happy cap has been a severe issue but thankfully receding now I have finally got Ivory, with Wine next turn (+ HR when I want it). I have 9 cities, but their sizes are like 5,4,4,4,4,3,3,2,1. I have only just got round to building a galley. I have a settler and a warrior in it to see what they can find.

I am whoever very worried that the Mayans are about to attack me. They've had a fist for ages, and I can see a few troops on their border now. Fighting Holkans and chariots off with Archers is going to be interesting, if that's how it goes. My econ should get me to Feudalism pretty quickly though, if that's what is required.

No great people yet, but GProphet in 10 turns will create the confu shrine, which is probably worth about 10g a turn. Market will be done about the same time - and also helps with happy issues.

Trying to get lots of cottages out - that was the vague plan, a nice peaceful econ game with Financial help. The tech rate of the others has been abysmal. I got Iron Working in exchange for writing & priesthood I think (!!!). They've improved somewhat now, but no-one will trade me anything good - I'm cautious with everyone. Hopefully some time of being in the same religion will improve matters.

At 1 AD things are looking quite well. Settled in place and made work of rexing the best I could. Pretty lush land certainly helped, while being financial helped to balance the books. Have 12 cities by 1 AD and got key resources in horses (due west), bronze (island just off shore) and iron (island to the NE). Population of 62, of which 12 thanks to Hanging Gardens. Also built Pyramids and adopted rep for happy and to keep research going. Tech is up to currency and calendar, but should take off soon. Right here I'm at about 100 bpt at break even, 243 bpt at 100%. On the relational front Peter the Mayan doesn't like me all that much as I stole a worker early on. Other than that, everybody really dislikes the Native American Lincoln who is everybody's worst enemy, like in the other reported games so far.

Worker steal from GK and then expanded 3 cities. Oracled construction, rock n' roll!

Hoping I'll get to finish this game in time but I have a question concerning whether my game will be accepted due to an unintended occurrence after which I reloaded and continued. I made saves that bracket (before/after) the event in question so...

Do I simply submit my game, knowing there will be an issue requiring explanation? Amazingly, this very same thing has happened before in a quite recent BOTM :). I really don't want to get a bad rep but I swear!!!...I keep managing to make this particular thing happen. Won't go into any details here but do you have any advice regarding this, kcd swede? If game can't be accepted it certainly isn't a big deal. I'm very much enjoying these particular settings with the metals offshore.

For what it's worth, this 'event' may have occurred to others also (isn't a BUFFY issue at all) and I think I've figured out what the heck causes it. I'll post something later that's more specific after competition is over-it may help others to avoid this in their games too.

The standard procedure for a game crash or unintentional replays is to:
a) notify the game admin (me in this case) by PM (not here in the spoilers) with details of your problem, when it occured and what was happening.
b) continue from the latest save (you should have autosave set for every turn) and repeat your moves as best you can the same way you originally did.
c) finish your game and submit as normal, unless instructed by game admins to do some other things first.

Notifying us helps us focus on the problem areas which are detected automatically, and avoids you having your game rejected for something outside your control.

Most players eventually suffer a crash and have to do this, so don't feel like we'll think less of you for reporting/submitting when something does occur. :goodjob:

We might get suspicious if there are bunches of turns replayed that we weren't notified about, though.:nono:

Thanks for the reply, kcd. PM containing relevant info otw.
