I started playing around age 11-12 after we moved here from New York City. I went on a game buying spree the first few weeks until the parents cut me off; Civilization was one of the games alongside R:TW.
Rome is cool and all, but Civ 3 takes the cake. I still play it to this day.
It helps that I personally like it more than 4. Have yet to try 5 but would probably still prefer 3.
Though I do wish 3 had some more dynamism; the Civics and Religions would be AWESOME in Civ 3.
I've started God knows how many stories in the Stories and Tales forum.

The Mod CCM includes Religions, but not Civics. Great mod, but I warn you: it plays very differently from normal Civ3.
Every time I fire up Civ 3, I feel giddy as a 34 year old.
