Brave New World - The Final Four

This is disappointing. I am actually about to cancel my pre-order and wait for a large price drop. I don't know what they were thinking when they added Venice and the Shoshone (who I've never heard of until now). The logical choice would've been Italy and the Souix, respectively. What a shame.

Italy? Really? There was no Italy until the 1800s.

The Republic of Venice, on the other hand, lasted for over 1000 years and ruled a vast colonial empire - it was one of the five longest-lived empires in history. It became a major cultural center, dominated trade in the Eastern Med and between Europe and the East, and had colonies or controlled territory around the Adriatic, Eastern Med and Black Seas. At its height, they had multiple-thousands of ships and Venice was the richest city in the world.

Marco Polo was Venetian. So was Vivaldi.

As for the game - I think Venice looks fun. I just wrapped up a Carthage game where I kept delaying building any settlers, and never did get around to doing it - it was easier to just conquer and puppet. If I could have bought units and buildings in those cities as well - wow!

While Venice was a economic powerhouse in the 13-16 Century, the Papal State was more expansionist. Rome with a built in Religion and diplomatic bonus would have been interesting. I'm digging out my rattle and spear and going Shoshone. Good addition.
