"Britain" Flag

This thread is to generate some discussion on the flag for a "Britain" civ as a replacement for "England".

If anyone has any better ideas or better flags, this is the place to put it.

As far as I am aware, we need to stick to 2 colour flags, so we ended up deciding on the Lion and Unicorn motif as the most collective representation of Britain and so far just using Red on White. Again, this is all up for discussion.

I have shrunk the flag I made down so hopefully it is a little less stretched, but it will also be a bit smaller.

I haven't had a chance to try it out in game yet, and it's too late for me to start one up now so if someone fancies trying it out in game and posting up a screenie, we can then go from there.

It's ok. It might not work though, It didn't for me. I believe it's happened before with other, vanilla, flags. My flag's just plain white now =[

yeah right - you swapped the main picture and its alpha channel.

Oops.... that's a silly mistake as I only swapped the alpha channel to take a screenie!!

Why do you want to replace ENGLAND, the dominant power in britain over the last 1500 years, with a political trick that the Scots agreed to only 300 years ago. That is the so called Britain.

Britain was proposed as a political union because the ENGLISH were too busy fighting the French and Spanish and wanted to get the annoying - but not dangerous barbaric scots out of the way.

They could always be dealt with later - if needed to. But as most of scotland is inhospitable we did not bother.

So keep England as England - not the imposed political contrievance Britain.

AND before you all start complaining about this post. I am probably the only Englishman to post such a thread as we are not as homophobic as the Scots.

You can only sit and watch stupidety for so long. How many who voted in that poll actually were born in the UK? Probably very few.

But if the opposite was proposed - change Scotland to Britain - you would get thousands of protest posts.

The Scots really hate their neighbours.

Harrier - I am not sure if you bothered to read the first post in this thread, but this is NOT a discussion on WHETHER to include Britain, it's a discussion on the flag. Please stay on topic - if you want to post whatever theories, feelings or impulses you so desire, go look for the discussion thread on changing England to Britain. Thanks.


Edit: Add to that my embarrasment to be considered part of the same nationality as the author of that poorly conceived, worded and articulated rant. "Homophobic" is an irrational fear or dislike of same sex partners and has NOTHING to do with nationality. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot!

Anybody tried the new one yet?

I just dont have any time to check it out until Friday at the earliest.... I'd be grateful if someone could try it in game and take a screeny, then if it still needs work, I can do that on Friday!

It was The Scottish Parliment, not the English Parliament that proposed the act of Union, Scotland is as British as the Home Counties, Yorkshire Pudding, or the Queen sat village green watching Cricket. The people of Scotland repeatedly reject any idea of breaking up the Union and the SNP struggle to get much support outside Glasgow. I am offended by your comments, not as an Englishman, which I am, but as Britishman who respects Scotland as anequal part of the Union with England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. If Scotland were to be forced to break away you'd get Northern Ireland x10.

Oh and England hasb't existed as a Nation for 1500 so I fail to see how it could've been the dominant force in the Isles for so long, it only united shortly before 1066 when what is now England was born. Prior to that there was Wessex, Northumbria, Mercia and all manner of Anglo-Saxon nations.

I also commend the team of this mod for not falling for such separatist nonesense and having Britain the way it should be.

Nice flag too, if I could ever get that damn flags-by-era mod to work I'd steal it for an early flag in my Britain mod.

Edungeon - is that definitely the newer flag I put up? It looks exactly the same as the old one but I have shrunk it 20% or more since then!

I downloaded it again (from the link in the first post) and i belive it is the same:

One thing that i know: you need to make the flag a like deformed, becouse the game stretch the flag ingame ( like 20~25% if i am not wrong...)

you should resize it (make it smaller) and make it negative.

I'll do that.... but I honestly am surprised at the result of the newer one. I reduced the size of the motif by a good 20% and it looks exactly the same size in game as before.
