Buce01: The Slavemaster

Actually, I just re-checked the save and CAII and it says we are on turn 52. So let's call this the end of my set. Sorry for the save name, I thought I had another turn. I don't know what happened, but there was an 80 year jump in my first IBT and another one between turn 6 and 7. It's a convenient place for a hand off anyway. Somewhere along the way it would be nice to even up the turns though (meaning getting back on even numbers, I'm not worried about a single turn).

So that puts Buce up I think.

OK, got it.

I'm going to play it today, because we are still within the scope of what we have previously discussed; however, I'd like to get a definitive answer on the question of how to get out of a demand while running negative gpt - we cannot afford to waste shields in this way.

I'm curious as well; this has burned me on a couple of my demigod attempts in solo games, which led me to be hesitant to run negative gpt.

I remember it being addressed in one of the SG's of the last six months, but I don't have the time to search for it.

I've re-played Phaedo's set several times now, trying to recreate the demand so that I can experiment, but to no avail.

I'm sure a lurker will be able to help.

Lemme tell ya what I'm gonna do for you....

Thank the gods for Norton Systemworks. Left click on the advisor head and it will take you to the diplo screen.

It will happen on the IBT after the save.

This is step 1 in my attempt to get my head back into the game. I have tried a couple of solo attmpte but I was more distracted than I have been in my contributions. I'm going to shaddow the last couple of Rage sets and hope that that will start the synapses clicking.

Hmm, nothing is happening at all on the IBT.....maybe you should ask Symantec for your money back :mischief:

Hmm.... It seems the save alone doesn't guarantee the event. So, just to be clear:
When a civ demands something, your Diplo advisor should be in the upper right hand corner. Left-click on his face and it will bring you to the Diplomatic screen. From there you can access any advisor screens, such as military, or most importantly, the domestic advisor.

P.S. I have a spell-check integrated into my modzilla browser. Does anyone know how to modify the language setting? I struggle with spelling as it is but I hate being told that labour, harbour and neighbour are spelled incorrectly when those are completely acceptable spelling conventions.

I don't run Mozilla, but it seems it is set to 'American' English; the spell-check on Microsoft 'Word' is adjustable to either, so maybe you can with Mozilla.

Thanks, Phaedo.

Can you all be sure to digest this, please.

Pre-turn:

Up lux slider to 20% to prevent riots;
Drop Science slider to zero.
Trade Wheel + 5gpt to Hittites for IW;
Trade Wheel to Babylon for CB + 7g;
Hiawatha cannot afford CB;
Send Archer to bust patch of fog South of Athens.
We have Iron to our NE.

Enter:

1675 BC:

Korea builds Colossus;
Athens completes Rax, begins Archer.
Archer finds Horses, just outside Athens Southern border.

1650 BC:

Buy our first Slave from Hiawatha for CB + 20g;
Set him to work on BG shared by Athens and Sparta.

1625 BC:

Our Slave begins to Mine;
mm Sparta to complete Granary before growth.

1600 BC:

Athens completes Archer, begins Settler to coincide with growth; the rationale is that we need to grab the Horses, and at size three Athens still produces four turn Archers - three once our Slave finishes his mine.

1575 BC:

Sparta completes Granary, begins Settler.
Thermopylae completes Rax, begins Hoplite.

1550 BC:

Sparta and Thermopylae grow, adjust slider to prevent riots.

1525:

Nada.

1500 BC:

Athens completes Settler, heads South for the Horses.

1475 BC:

Nada.

1450 BC:

Hittites demand 22g; sure no problem, we'll just add that to my little black book.
Make adjustments to all cities to provide funds to buy another Worker from Babylon - we pay 47g + 5gpt.
Corinth is working the gold hill at the expense of growth.
Sparta completes Settler, but is out of sync; we will need to give it a period of no-growth as soon as it grows to size five next turn - it should run a 4-6 factory.
I've left the Settler with full movement points - we need to up-date our dotmap and decide where it is to go.

BTW, I'm not going to keep repeating the roster, so I will keep an up-dated roster in the first post - the present incumbent in bold.

I wish I had remembered the rules in my set. I thought that after we had our first slave, we had to disband the native. I missed a slave on my set:mad:

We're off to a good start though. Nice set Buce

This is my opinion regarding city placements; it shows different placings from Phaedo's original, to take in to account changing circumstances.

We have Babylon encroaching to the West, but we are under no pressure in other directions.

I chose the first three because of their proximity to Athens; they will suffer a minimum of waste or corruption, and they also have a fair proportion of power tiles that will be useable even before they are developed.

The fourth is chosen for immediate commercial potential of the River.

The fifth is simply a fine second tier city site; although it is a little inhibited by the nearby Babs city, that is a temporary situation :evil:

I know that we have Iron to our NE, but realistically, it will not be connected until we can spare workers from priority tasks, and it is not under pressure from other civs.

Okay, got it. I won't actually play until tomorrow or Tuesday; I have to digest recent game events *after* I'm done being jetlagged.

...also, I'm up in Rage Against the Machine, so one of the two will have to wait until Wednesday or Thursday.

Both need some thought and discussion, but I think it might be a little quicker to get caught up in this one and play. We can work something out with Rage:)

Since Elephantium will have two Settlers to place in his set, it is important that there is some input regarding city placement; my dotmap is not a fait accompli.

What's the rationale for settling spot 1 first - that the workers are there? That makes sense. I do like the spot 3 with the sugars, and don't want anyone to horn in on our potential tooth decay.
