Bug: Cannot End Turn/ Move Units/ Do Things unless I save game (Weird I Know)

I have a similar issue, anytime i want to end turn or change to a different unit or select a technology i have to Alt-Tab the screen and when i go back to it the previous action i selected is accomplished. Almost as if the game forgets were it is or what it's doing until i re-focus by alt-tab out and in again, very frustrating.
 
I have the same problem, but I've done quite a bit of experimenting and the following all seem to work:

Save and reload

Alt-tab out and back in

Use the minimap to move to a view where there are no units visible; sometimes you have to move to two such locations to unjam the system. This is very easy early in the game, but gets trickier as you have LOS to more and more of the map. I'm not 100% sure if the real requirement is "at least one unexplored hex".


In any case, the problem seems to be some sort of render thread deadlock, which is resolved by changing the view so the rogue thread completes. Using threaded rendering slightly helps this problem for me, in that the unit status display and Big Button will update properly some of the time.


This may be directly related to graphics card speed, in that higher-end cards may either have more capacity and not get deadlocked, or may complete the rogue operation fast enough to make the problem invisible. My rig is slightly odd in that it's pretty decently powerful everywhere but the graphics card; I bought it when my old rig went wonky with the intention of moving my brand new card into it, but haven't actually done that yet.
 
I had this issue occur on the first turn of one of my games: saving and reloading did not fix the problem, but restarting the game and reloading did the trick.
 
I have encountered this once as well, and I somehow believe that it was because I loaded a savegame while there was a dialog window (alert, advisor, diplomacy, or something similar - I don't remember) open from the previous game.

Basically, I had just ended a turn, and at the beginning of a new turn there came some popup windows, but before they could appear, I pressed Ctrl-L to load a savegame, and while the Load Game dialog was active in the foreground, the end-of-turn popup appeared in the background (the game didn't freeze the end-of-turn processing in the background just because a Load Game dialog was activated in the foreground). I proceeded to load a savegame, but some part of the software seemed to become hung up with the end-of-turn popup that was never clicked away, so a "phantom modal window" was being carried on somehow indefinitely from a game which, from the software's point of view, was never properly ended.

And because the software kept thinking there was a popup that needed to be clicked away before other dialogs can proceed, it wouldn't allow me to do certain things any more.

I escaped the limbo state by exiting to Windows and restarting CivBE.
 
I'm having the same problem. I'll try enabling threaded rendering and seeing if it helps. I'm running the game windowed. The problem seems to occur mostly when Alt-Tabbing or sleeping/resuming my laptop. OS Win 8.1 64bit, Mobility Radeon HD4650.
