Haven't seen this posted anywhere else, if so sorry for double post.

This morning my Svartalfar forces were safely fortified on a hills/jungle right where my border met Ljosalfar's. War had broken out and our forces had been exchanging blows for some time. NW of my hill was a small band of Ljosalfar, some horsemen, Priests of FOL and archers i believe. We shared FOL.

Next turn, the Ljosalfar forces has moved into the same space as the one occupied by my forces, even though we were at war. At first i didn't notice, and tried to reincforce my troops with an adept, who died vs. an Ljosalfar archer. Had to move my own forces out of the jungle/hills and then attack them.

Have I missed some feature here, or is this a bug???

I don't think i had any HN units present, Alazkan was leading my main invasion-force up north... hmm perhaps Ljosalfar had adpoted CoE, but that'd be odd. hmm, well i have a save back home i could post if it hasn't been reported etc.

Its because you have the Council of Esus shrine.

So it is a bug? Is it reported? Couldn't find it in the bug-thread, but then again I did not know wxactly what to look for. And what is the bug, exactly? When you have the CoE shrine, what happens? Any info appreciated :)

Edit: BTW it is correct that i have the shrine.

All your units within your borders become permanently invisible (an invisibility which can't be removed by, for instance, revelation), except those in cities. This means they can't defend a chokepoint that is within your borders, since invisible units can't defend - as you saw, the enemy just moves into the square.

On the plus side you don't have to worry about barbarians killing workers, for instance, but it means you have to go on the offensive to clear out any enemy units in your borders, and they may be getting defensive bonuses which would apply to you instead (since you could have been defending at a chokepoint). This most annoying factor about this, in my opinion, is that sentry duty becomes an active job. You have to watch for barbarians in your territory and preemptively kill them before they start pillaging things, for instance.

Ahaa, thanks alot. Very interesting... hmm now I'll have something to think about for a few hours. This mod's getting better every day :) Thanks alot, everyone.

Um...did anyone mention that those units will only become invisible if you have CoE as your religion?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Hmm that's strange, I still had FoL. How is it with shrines, I thought you did not need to have the religion to build them, or?

You don't. But if I'm right, you need the religion as your state religion for the effects of the Shrines to apply to your units.

Yeah, give your mages shadow 2 and your rangers/satyrs/assassins woodsman 1+2 and you'll be wiping out invading forces no problem.

I thought shadow II didn't work properly.

Ignore building defenses was being applied to all units, that was fixed in 0.32 patch "k".

Thanks for the help everyone. In this particular game i bubbled up and lost all control over my maintenance costs, and the nearly automatic war with Ljosalfar bogged me down for centuries. But I'm looking forward too future woodland sneaking with your new advices in mind :)

Thanks for the heads-up on that one.

Hmm...thought you did. Ok. Guess I need to start readin the patch notes better then.

I think it's been that way since it was created. It's yet another reason why CoE just isn't worth while as a state religion.

Found it, sure, but switch? Nah.

So the only advantages of having CoE as state religion are the units then? Well expect for it beeing hidden diplo-wise etc.

There is a third benefit: if CoE is your state religion, your units do not get bumped out of enemy territory when you declare war. So you can set up a couple small strike forces near cities in currently-friendly territory (with whom you have open borders with), declare war, then immediately capture those cities.
