If the human player could not work the jungle, everybody would protest,
but when the AI can't, nobody seems to care, but this makes the bug not less!

Not sure what that means but that worker is not in his own territory and only thing he can do is build roads. If you mean the AI workers aren't as efficient at working the jungle, you are right, because I noticed that the AI focuses on the easier taska and apparently they haven't gotten around to working that area yet.

A bit confusing, the worker is mine, but that has nothing to do with it.
(he and the grenadiers are going east to take the barb city) .
I don't see the AI working the jungle just as in Civ3 they couldn't work
the swamps, and that is a bug imo.

Just check that link I included. Lot's of little tips and tricks in there and one that had a fix for someone that had your exact card. As far as the virtual memory setting. I find it's more stable if the minimum and maximum are the same so I hope that's how you have it set. But check this thread for advice, plenty of it. http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=135231

While I also have many of the other bugs discussed, ever since I installed the patch, I've had an unusual event happen repeatedly. My computer shuts off without warning (sometimes while the game is playing, sometimes after I'm done... the time to event varies from an hour to 12 hours). When I restart the computer I get a message that says something like "Previous system shutdown do to thermal event. Hit F1 to continue or F3 to enter set-up." When I talked to the computer repair shop by my office, they had never heard of a "thermal event" shutdown or error message.

Any idea what this is or if it is related to the game?

My system is a 2 year-old Dell with a 3 Ghtz Pentium IV processor, running Microsoft XP, and has 1.5 Gig of memory. (I upgraded the memory, which helped fix the problems I was having with Nvida graphics card. But the upgrade took place after the thermal event problem had cropped up.)

And yes, I have checked the cooling fans. They are working and the dust level inside doesn't appear to be very bad.

Try this link... Your computer is overheating somewhere, could be cpu or video card. Check this link http://www.nocrash.com/ncbbs/msgs/3612.shtml
It's possible that because of the resources the game uses your system is running too hot... Good luck, try a thermal paste, new fan, case fans etc...

Ok just like many people I get constant CTD's after an hour or so of playing.
It seems like a video related memory leak to me, probably caused by too many "Reload save games".

Symptoms: just prior to the crash, game gets real slow, has much trouble updating the screen as it moves from one active unit to another one further away. The game tries to paint the new graphics, freezes, unlocks, does that for 2-3 times than crashes. Post crash, if I view desktop properties for my screen resolution, it insists my screen is now at 640x480 (which it isnt) and wont allow me to change it, so am forced to reboot. Trying to restart the game gives an error that it cannot establish the game in the requested 1024 x 768 resolution.

System info:
Civ 4 version 1.09
Windows XP
1 Gb RAM
Nvidia Geforce 6200 card
7 GB free space on disk.
Latest video drivers installed (version of 9 dec 05), this did not solve it.

If anyone found a solution, please point me to it.

steps to reproduce:

1. load the game
2. start single player game

OR

1. load the game
2. start single player game
3. wait for the first diplomacy screen (AI talking to you)

=> display goes crazy (in many differents ways!) (have a look on the screenshots below)

Each time I got a diplomacy screen (when my fellow opponents want to talk to me) it makes the display goes worse and worse.
I say worse because I sometimes have display problems even without any diplomcay stuff, like the display bug number 2 in this forum (everything but the forests, mountains, units and coast is black.

the least anoying effect of this bug is taht the terrains become darker. Sometimes it disapear (become black), sometimes the forests and jungles turn in grey stuffs looking like nothing, sometimes (that's very boring) the icons disapear (icons of hammer, gold,.. or icons of production possibilities in the city sceen and of the actions for all units), sometimes the texts (all of them or just a part) become a kind of mix of chinese and ASCII, and somtimes strange textures appear anywherek, or usual textures goes progressively wrong.
all of those effects can occure alone, or together, in general when one appear, it's gona be worst very soon, and surely if there is again a diplomacy screen oppening.
I noticed that the bugs relating especialy to the terrains (when it goes darker or black, or snowy (I forgot this one) can sometimes be partly resolved by the toggling on and off of the grid. Not always working though, but for the black terrains one.

I also got several wild reboot at different time of the game (diplomcay, governement screen, IA turn, charging of a savegame...) but I do not know if it is linked.

Finaly I never had any error message.
My graphic card is a geforce 6600 GT, with (very) up to date drivers.

here is one example, prety boring when it's your first play and you don't know the game yet.

I did what you said. i do not know how to program. and i was told that i should find anouther way... am i now out of luck?

Here are some more info's about the bug that I described just a few post above this one.

I launch a second play yesterday, and was suprised to not suffer any bugs for quite a long time. (+ or - 1000 AD). Then it appears again and goes worse and worse despite my reloads. SO it looks like the game "save" some kind of errors and accumulate them until the display goes almost systematically wrong.
I have a little theory about it, i'm not sure, but it seems to me that the bug appears only after I got contact with the third or fourth civilization. Or when I met for the first time a specific civilization (england I think) which in both case could explain the fact that I could play so long without this bug, cause I met four civi (among other: england) at the very begning of the game during my first play.

hope that can help the programmers to find a solution, cause it's pretty boring!

I have found 2 more issues, that do not appear in the OP as bugs. However, since Ginger_Ale hasn't updated the original post for a while, i don't know whether these points have been raised before.

1. War Weariness
WW can be sky high. However, after destroying the only Civ we were at war with, WW still exists until the next turn. Is this intentional or a small bug?

2. Graphics bug
Building muskets or grenadiers, the city display does not show the turns remaining until unit is done. This is funny since all other cities still show production times, but not for muskets. Will post a screenie tonight as evidence.

Numerous crashes to desktop usually, but not always upon completion of a wonder. I found the following logfiles in the Civ IV folder. I have approximately 200 more if you are interested.

Not quite a bug perhaps but definately something to improve:
Disabling the ingame movies in the .ini file causes the window telling you what's use a just researched tech has to not appear anymore. Drove me crazy to find out why I didn't get the window anymore because it's not exactly what I'd call a "movie".
