Bug Reports Center

Ok... so the new patch is out and it does nothing for me... It's basically the same game but now, I have two headed horses sometimes, video on wonder movies now studders, before i only had studdering music, now they both studder. Also the quality of the movies seems to have gone done like they reduced the resolution hoping that would work... nope, didn't... still playable for me but obviously some things need polishing... I'll upload some screenshots later when I have time of the horses, can't really show the movie issuses... I'll continue to look for anomalies though...

I think I have a bug:

Twice I tried to install and it would start, intialize all the way through, show both splash screens, then after the one with multiple companies, just crash to desktop. I finally noticed a gray box quickly popping up, but didn't have time to read it. I reduced the resolution, and it said "movie not installed". I got it to run by turning movies off (but I have black terrain, which even the patch didn't fix). Can I fix this?

An odd little bug I got:

I had just built a pasture on some sheep on the edge of my territory when Alex declared waron me. One of his Warriors came up and pillaged the tile. Suddenly the sheep had disappeared! The game still thought they were there as when I moused over the tile it came saying 'sheep pasture +1 health' and I was able to rebuild the pasture and get sheep resource, but the icon was completly gone. Even the shadows were missing (when I had black terrain before the patch it would only show shadows of the animated resource icons).

Ok well, I promised screenshots and here they are, the first is the two headed horse. It seems to only be like this when it's in the fog. Also, I have a shot of the sheep resource which shows only one lone sheep in the fog. I'll try to see if there is more than one when the tile is visible. Another picture that is probably a bug but is definately funny is the floating house. All of these graphical glitches are post patch and I did not have them prior to the patch. I'm running the 81.95 nvidia drivers on my GeForce 6800GT card.

Also, I will try to check your save game Warlord

In about two turns a lone galleon from Russia will appear in the northeast area of my island. I lost the save to the original picture but this is just as good (I think). Tell me if this works cuz this is my first game save uploaded so I do not know how to officially do it. Also, don't take this save as how I generally play. I was just seeing what islands was like so that is why it is a little cr*ppy. If you can tell me how I can load game saves from the internet like this one and how to run it on Civ4 I would greatly appreciate it.
I clicked on the link but it said file not found. Did you remove it after you uploaded it? In any case, try again.

I can confirm that the wonder movies are a bit broken after the patch. I'm running a GeForce 6800 with the nVidia 81.95 drivers and pre-patch I could run the wonder movies without a single problem. Post patch, the movies now run at about 2 or 3 frames per second and the sound is just as choppy. I disabled AA and it appeared to help out with the wonder movies, but when I exited out and went back in, once more the movies were choppy. (Though much less choppy than when I had AA enabled). I run the game at 1024x768 which my video card "shouldn't" be having trouble with. I just wonder if there is some flaw in the Bink video codec being used by the game.

Hi, thanks for trying it out and telling me it doesn't work. Here is a pic of some nice beachfront estates:D:

How do I get rid of the ...? I tried two times trying to upload the save (previewed post). Can any of you please instruct my how to properly load a save in detail please??? Do I also have to get rid of the broken one in the earlier post too to make this one work? Note: this bug continues through the 1.09 patch. Also, the fog of war make pigs and whales not move too.

Hi, I am here to post a new bug discovered by another person that I can confirm. It is a multiple palace bug. Here is my capital with palace:

Mecca1.JPG

Here is Beijing, a capital I captured pre-patch:

Beijing1.JPG

Notice the lack of a palace.

Lastly, here is Athens, a capital I captured with the patch:

Athens.JPG

As you can see the patch now keeps palaces captured with the patch which really helps for lowering maintenance costs and making capitals regain culture quickly. Unfortunately, all capitals captured before the patch are still lost :(.

In addition, do you like my new avatar:D?

Here's another bug I don't think has been posted yet: In hotseat multiplayer, with the resource display on, the little resource bubbles don't go away until after the next player types in their password. We've been ignoring it, but it does tell you what resources the other human player has. It also looks kind of stupid.

I'll post a screenshot sometime soon.

I have a possible bug with the FullScreen parameter saving in my ini file. Or perhaps it is just a feature change (if so, they should switch it back anyway).

Every time I switch the FullScreen parameter to 'ask', the game runs through how it did pre-1.09 once. That is to say, at the load-up of the game it will ask whether or not you want it to run in full screen mode. However, it then seems to save the option you took and over-writes the 'ask' portion in the .ini file to either '1' or '0' depending on whether or not you hit 'yes' or 'no' on the pre-load prompt.

I rather like having the option of choosing fullscreen or not before loading. If I am running SGs, running in windowed mode makes for far quicker Alt-Tab transitions, or for any other type of multi-tasking I happen to be doing at the time.

I am surprised by this, but a very famous exploit from Civ III has made it into Civ IV. I can position a stack of unit in an ideal location inside an ally's territory and then declare war on him. If I have done things correctly, when my units are ejected from his borders, they will cross the ocean to another island! It can't be done many times, but it could be all someone needs to colonize an island several turns before anyone else can.

=$=

But if you'll notice, it's harder to sue for peace in Civ4 than in Civ3. So while you might be able to colonize that island, your opponent won't just ask for peace for a tech or some gold. Also, you'll suffer a major rep hit with lots of other civs, so most of the time, the bad outweighs the good.

Hmm.. How does this thread work? Reference to thread with bug?

Anyway, the bug is that there are no roll-over hints in the options screen as advertised in the manual (and it would be rather handy, too).

setup: well within tolerances -- 3.8 ghz intel, 1gb ram, ati 9550 video card.

the game plays pretty well. having patched to 1.09 when available, most of the problems i was facing with random CTDs were solved.

one bug remains:

when i win a diplomatic victory, the game freezes with an error. this has happenned in two different games, both setup with different options (one small map, on large, etc.). it happens at the same point in each game: the un resolution has been put forth and voted on, and passed. i have had the resolution voted on and failed, but with no crash.

that last line is how i know the game is ending and victory has been .. er .. mine, for whatever that's worth.

in full screen mode this freezes the PC. in windowed mode, i can switch per normal.

here is the screen cap:

and the save file is here.

any answer to this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Mercade,

In this thread you can either post a link to a thread as you did, or post a bug in here with assorted info as sfamiliar did.

I will update the bugs list tonight, thanks guys. Also let me know if there are any bugs I can cross out as a result of 1.09.

After a few minutes of play I found the following:

- the intro movie seriously stutters (it may "hang" for several seconds, before I only had little interrupts every few seconds)
- tech icons are blurry (other icons like unit ones are not)
- leaderhead eyes are white (pretty creepy)

And present in both 1.00 and 1.09:
- Frederick doesn't say anything to me when I meet him
- trees cause a MAJOR decrease in performance (very laggy gameplay)

my system:
AMD Athlon XP 2400+ (2ghz)
ATI Radeon 9200 SE (128mb)
512mb ram

I now it's not exactly great, but if Doom3 can run on this machine, so should Civ4, period. I'll be waiting for the next patch now to try again.

More things:
- The F1 screen doesn't remember the last sort order you used, which is incredibly annoying. Also it sorts low->high first, when I'd rather it was the other way around.

To reproduce:
- Start a game, and build two or more cities.
- Press F1.
- Select one of the columns to sort by; it's sorted in ascending order first.
- Close the F1 screen, and re-open the F1 screen. The default sort order is back.
