Have anyone noticed this?

It happened while I was playing Civ with scientific feature, like Persia, Babylon, etc. When I entered next era, I got a bonus tech-advance. Usually, bonus techs are Monotheism or Feudalism for Middleage, Nationalism for Industrial and Rocketary or Ecology for Modern age. When I finished last tech to enter next era, Science advisor asked me which tech I wanted to research next. When I chose the tech which I would get as a bonus, next said we have learned that tech. Then, Science advisor said, "President, we have learned the secret of 'Theology' from Greeks. What do you want for next?" Hey, wait, I have finished research for the secret of Magnetism or Radio, not Theology. The civ I had learned from was different between the games. But, why Theology?
When I entered into middle age, it was literature, if I remembered correctly.

I think it is a bug not fixed in 1.21g patch.
Have anyone seen or noticed this?

No.

The Science Advisor's message seemed the same as the one which appeared when we got tech through the Great Library. But, I did not have it.

sorry, i don't get the point:

did you get monotheism as free tech and then theology as a "bonus" or did the program give you a tech you allready had?

i remember having the problem that i researched theory of gravity but didn't enter the industrial age. all middle age techs were researched, and i could trade in theory of gravity from the ai again, but then the program crashed.
i don't remember whether this was 1.17 or 1.21f, but i remember reinstalling civ3 which helped a lot also against other crashes (in this time i learned to save about all 10 turns....)

i would suggest to you to install new since you seem to have several problems including playing my deity game...

For example, below is exactly what happened.

I am playing as Babylonian, and my scientist finished research last tech for industrial age, Radio. So, my civ entered modern age. I chose Rocketary as new tech to be researched. Then, my bonus tech was Rocketary and Science Advisor said, "Commander, we have learned the secret of 'Theology' from Greeks. What should we research next?" My choice for this time was appropriate like Computer, Ecology etc.
The same advisor comment was appeared at the transition to Industrial Age. And I did not have the Great Library at this time.
I saw the same comment several times.

By the way, when I choose to reinstall civ3, which patch should I install after reinstall? Only 1.21g or both 1.21g and 1.17g?

i'll check if the same bug happens to me.
the previous patches are included in newer ones.
but perhaps you'll have to install the old one in order to save your old game

This is a known bug, it was never fixed, even in the PC 1.29 version because it doesn't affect gameplay at all.

It happens when scientific civs go to a new age, or when you complete The Theory of Evolution.

I know, it's weird.

Theres a related question in the PC Newbie Questions forum, just in case you don't want to take the advice of a seventh post...

Thanks, Dio_Time2Go.

It is very strange not to be fixed in newest PC patch. It is true this does not have any effect on game play. But ...is it so difficult to fix?

By the way, are you checking many of general forums? Just curious.
