Hi again, gang. Are you disappointed with the Rise of Rome scenario that came with Warlords? Well, I am, and Ive set out to create my own Roman scenario. I essentially want it to be a composite of Civ 3s Rise of Rome, Greek World in Civ 4, and RR in Warlords, but with a bigger focus on realism and historicity.
I should say that this is not meant to be a humongous mod; the good folks over at RFRE (who are doing an excellent job, IMO) will be able to out-do just about anything I could come up with. What I want to make is more of a scenario than a full-blown mod, though Im not at all opposed to rule changes and new additions.
The game will cover the period of Romes climb to power, from about 500 B.C. onward. Since this is basically a Rise of Rome scenario, I wont be doing much with the period of 180-476 AD, at least for now. Ive used some of TAM and Greek World as a basis, and Ive already extended a huge map I found here on CFC to include Persia. Right now, I have most of the cities placed and am working on getting all the buildings and city details ironed out.
I have not given much thought yet to technology changes, although I will probably either:
1.) use the default Civ 4 techs
2.) copy Civ 3s RR techs, and add a few of my own.
For units, Ill probably just stick to the basic ones in the game, with maybe upgrades using the same graphics, e.g., Legionary I, II, and III, like in Civ 3. I might rename a few to make them fit better. There may be a few building additions (e.g., the baths) depending on what graphics I can find. Religions have been renamed to include prominent ones of the era, e.g., Greek Mythos. And of course, I will implement civ-specific great people. No Scipio-born-in-Carthage business.
Civilizations will include Rome (of course), Macedon, Greece, Egypt, Carthage, Gaul, Britannia, Germania, Persia/Parthia, Etruria, Scythia, and possibly Armenia, the Huns, and Goths (if I expand the time frame later).

It's a little spotty right now, as I've yet to fill in all the details, but it gives you an idea of what is to come.

That's starting to become a lost art.
