Just finished a game with a cultural victory.
If you make sure you have most of the wonders or at least the most important one (that generate a lot of culture) then the only thing you have to do is keeping the other civs happy

Piece of Cake!

What level are you playing on? I play on Monarch, and I am doing very well if I get more than one wonder per age until the modern age.

If you try to win this way be sure that you have an industrious civilization so your larger cities generate more shields, but it won't work too well on high difficulty levels. But it's nice to give it a try :p

Well, it is possible to have most of the wonders available when you play at Monarch. It all depends on who your neighbours are.

1st-Build five cities immediately
2nd- The first two after having built a settler, two defensive units and a temple should focus on building a Wonder. The remaining ones build attacking units and start two expand against one of the neighbours.

I'm playing one right now (Monarch, Persian, large map, 10 civs, raging hordes) and I have 6 wonders out of 9 possible. I lost The Oracle, Lighthouse and Great Library. I'm not the most powerful nation (the Zulus are) but I am the most advanced one.

Just remember to have always one city building a Wonder or a palace.

WOW magnum you must be a long way behind in otherways, i'd be surprised if you can win with a decent score now.

I think most of the wonders are a waste of space and do more harm by building them than good. To take so much time with 3 cities on monarch level, hmmn I'd be interested to see how you go in the end, could be tough.

Yeah, sure you should build all wonder if you can but it is most unlikely to do that. If you have situation where you have two or three wonders coming. Sometimes you just have to choose what wonder you are building. I have spotted that for every rise of difficult level, AI starts to build more wonder. Many times there is situation where you have wonder coming in two citys. AI has one of those wonders coming. You get one of those wonders ready and then AI change this all ready built wonder to another and gets it ready in next turn. This is the most common way in chieftain and warlord difficult. In more difficult levels AI starts to build wonders when ever they gets one.

There is no more things to say in this section. --- Man without words
This ain't funny!!! --- Same

Well Cutiestar, I've played 10 games up to now and I won all of them by sending the spaceship first. I don't know what were the scores by I will check. Anyway all I want is to WIN.

When I get to modern ages I'm by far the most advanced, largest and powerfull nation.

Just pick two nations to conquer and put the others fighting between themselves. CIVIII is quite easy when you make the best use of your ambassadors.

I haven't played yet GOTM 2 but I'm going to abandon the current game and try to send it. Please do the same and lets compare scores.

MAY THE BEST ONE WIN.:goodjob:

On all levels except Deity I usually get 90% of the wonders.

How are you able to build 90% of the wonders on Emperor? Could you post a save game. Do you really build them or take them over from others. I usually just give up on the early wonders as a hopeless pursuit at this level. The late game wonders you can build once you get a tech lead, but how do you do it in early game when you start out so far in the hole?

I think I agree with Cutiestar, building wonders normally sacrifices so much in other areas, that you can get in big trouble. Of course, when going for the spaceship, it can sometimes be a good idea, but I normally find an army, population, territory, etc. to be more important.

I accept the challenge, but I wasn't by any stretch even remotely implying I am a good player, I was just making suggestion based on what i have learnt, but can't yet perfect myself. With 10 civs on a large map, it is absolutely impossible to build over 50% of the wonders in the first two ages, and still do well, maybe still can scrape through for a win, but otherwise.

I myself have no wonders at all, lol, and every second turn another civ is building and completing a wonder (exaggeration) lol

Before the patch, each city would start to build the palace right after their settler build. Then switch to a wonder when the palace build was 1 turn away. Although the patch did not list this change, you can only build 1 palace at a time now!

I try to avoid combat at all cost and build them my self. Unfortunately Civ3 is more like AoE than Civ 1 or 2! Just like in AoE you are forced into combat at some point in the game. Might as well switch to AoE games. I don't know why they (Sid) abandon the ability to win without combat which is one of the major reasons Civ1 is so great.

I would try to meet every civ in the beginning, Map Making my 1st priority. I would give/trade with each known civ every 5 turns. I play with all 16 civs. This is a lot of extra work but I think it is worth it. I have only been trying the Deity level since the patch and I quit just as I enter the Medieval era. They are too far ahead of me. I was trying the culture and/or combat routes but I keep quitting in the Medieval era. I just noticed the GOTM. So I'm going to do the GOTMs. Maybe they will have a Deity game and I can learn from the posted games. Also, I don't remember the other civs trading so much before the patch. Is this another non-listed patch change or something to do with Deity level. The other civs trade all advances and communications now. I'll soon find out now that I'm going to play a non-Deity level after patch game (GOTM).

I just installed an 80GB hard drive which means I reinstalled Civ3 therefor I have no saved games. I just use the auto saves anyway except for the "B4Attack.sav" and "BreakTime.sav" which I reuse over and over.

I hope I answered your all of your posted questions.
