Building great wonders.

Yes, the SofZ is one I always go after if I have ivory, and I usually manage to get it. It generally gives me a lot of good units before it becomes obsolete, and without tying up a city's production. :)

I will only build ancient wonders that don't trigger my GA...

In general, only a couple of Wonders are worth the shields for me to even try.
Colossus, MoM, SoZ; Smith's, ToE, Hoover, Internet.
KT if I lack Iron. And Shakes if the tech progress is odd enough - a size 20 capital mid-medieval is a huge bonus.

And yes, I will even try to get them on Deity (if there is a realistic chance, like having the only coastal start). An ancient wonder in the capital is a great investment in the future - tourism rocks.
But I won't ever invest a single shield in any other wonder outside culture games.

Lighthouse is very useful an certain maps. If I'm playing a civ that doesn't have an easy unit-triggered GA I'll go for GA-triggering wonders if I can get them (i.e. Leonardo and Newton for Germany). Also, I like getting ToE and Hoover if I'm going for a spaceship victory, and Sufferage if I plan to conquer the world in the modern age. Generally, ancient or medieval wonders aren't worth it since it's hard to get the required tech before the AI does. I usually only go for wonders if I'm playing peacefully and have a big, high-shield city that doesn't have any more useful improvements to build.

MoM? Why the heck would anyone build that?

GLib--Egypt

Templars--France

Glib was in Alexandria, as in Alexandria the Great. I'm pretty sure Ptolemy built is so it counts as Greece in my book.

Templars - Philip financed the crusade, but I always thought Richard (Lionheart) was the driving force behind it. I consider this an english wonder.

Oh, come on, do you always have to say whatever I think?
It's not your fault that you were so heavily influenced by my presence.

But he was only in the 3rd (I think) Crusade right?

3 happy faces for 200sp, tourism bonus. Allows the capital to grow to size 12 in the AA [Edit: without happiness problems, that is. It is not a duct (luckily, otherwise you couldn't build it at a river :crazyeye: )]- that's a huge wonder. And, if I start, I'm likely to get it. No big risk here.
But the tourism is the main reason. Any wonder would help, but that one is useful and pretty safe.

If I play Rome, i always build the true, unique, most powerful, utterly awesome Great Wonder of Rome: legionaries. Lots of them.

Temple of Artemis or Statue of Zeus? Temple of Artemis is pretty costly, but it's extremely useful. AI usually builds them before I even get the tech.

Anyway, I always build Hoover Dam. That's my favorite. I never miss it.

Statue of Zeus, no question, if there's ivory. The ToA goes obselete too soon and costs way too much and doesn't do anything really gamebreaking, just marginally helpful.

SoZ is really a great wonder. If I can get the ivory, I will definitaly go for it.

Well, yea! Ancient Cavalry rock! ;) BTW, what do you need to make SoZ and what does MoM stand for?

You need Mathematics and Ivory to build SoZ

MoM is Mausolleum of Mausolos or however its spelt.
