Building great wonders.

I'm just wondering, does your choice of civ affect the type of great wonders you want to build? If so, is it out of historical reasons or just because those great wonders compliment the civ's playing ability?

For instance, when I'm playing greece I make it my job to build at least one the Colossus or the Temple of Artemis. If I'm playing Egypt I'll generally make a desperate(and generally failed) attempt at getting the great pyramids. The idea generally fizzles out in the later eras, though if I'm playing Japan, than Sun Tzu's is a must.

What about you guys?

I aim for particular wonders, but if an AI beats me to it, I will just grab anything available.

No matter who I'm playing as I always go for Sun Tzu's Art of War and Theory of Evolution. (Bach's Cathedral is nice too.)

The wonders do have unique impact on some civs. Some will trigger a GA for a given civ and not other. So always note if the wonder is special for that civ or its traits. In some the second wonder for that trait will do the job.

Just play sid and not be concened about wonders, other than the GL. You will get the nice friendly notice that X or Y was completed (if you have contacts) and you are wishing you even had the tech for it or in some cases was in the same Age.

I never go for wonders except for ToE and Hoover's (and UN). It's a bit of a weakness, I guess.

Going for the GL is not a bad thing, but there are many games that it is not a good investment. I maintain that a pangea Deity is one of those times.

Of course any time you go for it and fail is a bad time.

My only must have wonders are Theory of Evolution, Universal Suffrage, United Nations and Leonardo's Workshop. Not that I get them every game, but those are the only wonders I try hard to get.

What civ I play doesn't affect it at all. Although once I built the Great Wall as the Mongols just to be funny :)

Always go for specific wonders. I never have a wonder-civ preference.

Try to keep those Chinese from pillaging your country I take it? ;)

Well... the Great Wall actually pretty much encourages the player to play a style that allows the AI to pillages...

I find the Great Wall a bit useless, as barbarians aren't too much of a threat, and I don't usually build walls.

then our Chinese should have great wall and sun tsu's art. and some civs won't have any GW to build, such as japan, zulu, etc. Which civ has the most GW? American?

I've raved about The Temple of Zeus in the forum before. Is there anyone out there who shares my appreciation for this wonder? Or anyone who could argue that it is not really worthwhile?
