What would you like to see as far as infrastructure...

*Fire House

*Police Department

*Restaurant

It just seems Civ4 left out some of the more obvious ones

IMO its best to keep to generalised things... Police force for sure (isn't that in Civ4? Haven't played for a while!) but I wouldn't my cities spending years to build a single restaurant :)

I'd personally like more civ-specific and civic-specific buildings. Gladiator arenas, with risk of rebellions? Stock markets only for capitalist states? I guess things like 'Labour Camps' are on dangerous ground that the developers won't want to go near.

I also hope that 'Wall Street' or 'Pentagon' type things, if they appear, are more generalised and not copies of the present-day USA, so that everyone from the celts to the zulus isn't forced to evolve into copies of the present-day USA...

Yes the USA is a great and proud country, but not all of us see it as the pinnacle of all possible human civilization, especially in our own imaginary worlds!

Noone is making them build the Pentagon or Wall Street  .

Seriously though, in terms of what you said about Wall Street and the Pentagon, I would like to see civ-specific wonders as well - at least on the National Wonder level. That way this issue could be addressed. This would do a lot to add to the unique character of the civs that is being promoted by what I have read about civV. But I would like to see the benefits of these proposed wonders be slightly different from eachother - so each Civ does not have a replica of anothers wonder, with simply a different name.

I also like the idea of civic specific buildings

Fewer buildings, if possible.

Buildings should really be restricted to a set which will provide the most interesting strategic choices. Trade-offs are of paramount importance for creating these interesting choices. City specialization should be a particular point of emphasis in this area.

Buildings that are "no-brainers" that are always built in every city should be avoided as much as possible, as they lead to monotony and fatigue.

This, plus make it possible to build in "levels", making it possible to skip levels with the right technologies. For instance, Granary, Grocer, and Supermarket might be considered three different levels of the same building/sector. Same for Library and University, Forge and Factory, Coliseum and Major League Arena...

Fire house, police department, & restrauant are great ideas. How about a drug store, or pharmacy, psycology clinic. An amusement park.

I think the buildings need to upgrade in both function and graphics as the civ progress through time. It really looks silly to have ancient aqueducts and granaries in a modern metropolis!

Out of the box I think that this is unlikely.

I think we can expect just about the same as Civ4(3, 2, and 1) in terms of numbers of buildings, because unless the pace of the game plays significantly different I would think they will have designed the game to last pretty much the same as in previous versions...why mess with a winning formula?

All this recent attention on Civ5 made me go dig up my copy of Civ3 today...and the Rise and Rule mod. Civ3 is still a fantastic game, but the RAR mod made it even better adding those extra resources, techs, and buildings etc...

I'm just saying don't expect a whole lot of difference from the product out the box. The changes to the combat system, diplomacy and hexmap seem the be the big change this time round. Do we even know if wheat, shields and coin are still in as the mechanism by why growth is managed?

The police are included in C4 via the "jail." A restaurant is hardly an obvious item to include in civ. The leaders in civ build signficant public infrastruture. A restaurant is a small business.

A firehouse? Perhaps. But I'd rather have a covered sewer, a la the "sanitation" from C3.

I think this is an excellent idea.

You can already get these buildings in the Rise of Mankind mod.

Along with a ton of other junk. No offense to Zap and others, but i'm not a fan of RoM.
