Burning a book just seems wrong on some sort of a fundamental level. Probably because of the historical connotations.
I buy old books and I give them a home. I don't think I'd ever burn a book.
I have thrown away at least two books. One was some crap by Boris Vien, but i threw it away -i was 17,5) to revenge some other person who caused me to lose an expensive overcoat (it doesn't matter what i did to get to that point, naturally

The other was a collection of 'theosophical' short stories by Blavatchky. I felt like they were a very rotting influence- i was 19 at the time. I was almost run by two cars while carrying them home from some shop in central London, which sort of vanished without a trace a couple of months later that i went looking for it (although some person there- i think a Jamaican- seemed to recall me and asked me if i came for the shop, and then started laughing- at which point i left cause it was quite ominous
