buzz then freeze

I have had Civ 4 and BTS installed for a while. Lately when disc for BTS is in player and trying to play game, I have been getting a buzzing sound and computer locks up. I have all up to date drivers and programs, that I can find. I have formatted hard drive, and reinstalled, with newest drivers and disc drivers. Neither helps. Think it is sound card. I have an amd 64 3200, sound blaster audigy zs, ati radeon 9800 pro, 1gb ram low I know. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Is the game starting at all?
Is there an error message regarding the lock up in the windows event manager?

Yes game is running, usually at least 15 minutes into game. Not sure if logged anything or not, have to turn off computer by power switch to do anything with it.

OK, I looked in the windows event viewer, found nothing for civ 4.

Did you patch to 3.19 yet? it was released last week - so it might be worth a try...

Yes have downloaded and installed the new patch. Plus have removed audio card. Still does it. Have ran scan disk, reinstalled couple times. Looking at video card or motherboard may be going bad.

can you start the game at all?

Yes usually get 15 to 30 minutes into a game.

if you turn off the sound in the ingame options - does that change anything?
if you turn down the graphics to low does that change anything?

Turned off sound, not tried the graphics yet. Will try.

Turned graphics down as low as will go, still no help. Gonna reformat harddrive again, reinstall sound and video cards.
