Just a small question since I was curious. When did we know all the civilizations in Civilization V? Was it months, weeks or just days before its release?
They are just first look. They may release them when they are ready and only if it doesn't disturb the marketing plan. We can reasonably expect a second pass of in-depth look !
They said in mid-june something about releasing information about religion over a month or so. So probably we will get some information about religion this week (or next week).
I'd guess by about a fortnight before release. They need time to drum up more hype about the inevitable DLC civ packs they will be putting out at or shortly after the game launches.
Hmmm, the release date is when everyone will know all the civs that is included in the release. Firaxis could keep a few secret as surprise. Like, announced twelve, only to find out the base game has sixteen civs!

In looking at some old threads here it looks like we had all civ names by early July 2010 for Civ V which was some 80 days before release. Not sure how VI will shake out.

Well, i'm more excited about the big "religion mecanic" announcement they promised a month ago during E3.
But, i'd say they might keep that 1 civ per week reveal through first look and add more and more stuff on top of that the closer we get to the release. Like, more mecanic focused video, probably let's plays late august in the firaxis live thingy. Let's plays from youtubers in september.
Something very similar to the PR plan for Beyond earth.
Pfft. I answered the question in the 10th post. We can't go by a 6 year old marketing plan. It's better to judge by the BE marketing or BNW marketing since they incorporated new things like livestreaming.
