C2C with GOG Version still requires inofficial Patch 3.19?

Hi,

I am playing C2C V38.5 with Civ 4 Complete from GOG. It seems to work "somehow alright", but I am not sure if its really ok to play the mod with the vanilla gog version.

The GOG Version shows it is V3.19, so do I still have to find an unofficial patch for some other V3.19 or is the GOG version good to play with?

Well, it looks like seen on YT videos. I think only a mod developer using the GOG version can answer the question if the GOG V3.19 is ok or not.

GOG Occasionally does add in Fanpatches in order to make their games work, so it is quite possible that the GOG version comes standard as V3.19, I'm unsure if there's really a way to find if they'd done something beside knowing what those might be

First, off, the v3.19 update is an official firaxis patch.
Second off, I've never heard about a 3.19 patch that didn't work for BtS...

The v3.20 "steam-official" patch does not work well though, and anyone on steam should downgrade to v3.19 as described in this thread.

GOG usually don't make big changes to the games they release unless the game is so old that it causes severe issues on newer systems, something BtS does not.
The latest official patch is usually distributed with any game GOG provides.

I don't own the GOG edition, but I would guess that it work just as well as if the game had been installed with the physical CD release and updated to v3.19 manually.

A question for dragony:
When you click on multiplayer in the main menu, are direct ip and lan listed as possible MP modes? If so then GOG has not made a v3.20 patch similar to the one steam made.

The steam v3.20 patch was created as a reaction to the gamespy servers being shut down for good, which was a ridiculous move by steam as all the MP options can be used without having the gamespy servers operational.

I think it works - the only downside to the GOG version seems to be that you cannot double-click on savegames anymore. Otherwise, there should be no problems.

You can probably go into the file properties for the save file and set the BtS.exe file as the default program to open such files with.
I would be surprised if the BtS.exe file didn't exist within a gog installation of BtS.

I've been told the one we require was a private effort here on civ fanatics but wouldn't be the first time I've been misinformed.

@Toffer90: Multiplayer options LAN und Direct IP do exist and I have successfully played unmodded multiplayer games with Direct IP in my LAN with the GOG versions without any problems.

Now I want to play C2C MP games with the Direct IP option, so I want to make sure I have got a stable setup. While playing in single player, I have seen obvious problems anyone should have seen really soon when testing, so I wondered if it is a problem with my official GOG version or not.

Bug 1: Mousing over a unit shows something like "Experience: -18857854874/2".
Bug 2: When one of my units is killed by some animal, it shows the following funny text containing several grammatical errors including one non-substituted placeholder plus a wrongly placed appendix: "Euer verteidigendes Steinwerfer 1 (Alto Nanay) wurde von einem %[s3_owner_adjective]em Lone Black Caiman bBeastly!"

But if its a common problem in the version, then all is fine =)

Sounds like regular C2C bugs; bugs that are unrelated to any changes GOG may have made to the BtS.exe file.

You should expect C2C MP to be quite unstable, the game will often go out of sync when playing "direct IP"/Lan.
It works, but can get quite tedious to often restart because of frequent out of sync issues.

Turn of revolutions and events, they have content that are not MP compatible.

If we give it a try nevertheless, shall we use V38.5 or better the SVN as of today?

Oh. So we won't be able to enjoy MP C2C at all? :(

Just take care not to select wonders to build when the other has selected that wonder and don't move your units to plots they can't get to in the same round and you should be able to go a long time without many OOS errors if you also follow the few pieces of advise he gave you. I'll be able to debug those further soon but my wife and I find it playable last we checked.

And yes, definitely get the SVN updated to the latest. Some big fixes in there recently.

I tried that - I think GOG must have changed the BtS.exe a bit, resulting in that file being unable to load a savegame directly. Otherwise, it works fine, and you can load from the menu.
