US forces launch their much anticipated invasion of the Philippines. Due to overcrowding in Filipino waters, US Marines were unable to reach and secure a beachhead for further troops, so attacked the town of Cebu directly, following a massive air and sea bombardment that crippled the defence and destroyed two planes on the ground. A Japanese marine, infantry and SNLF unit were all killed in the attack, but the town remained in Japanese hands as Marines slunk back out to sea to attack again in the morning... The marines took only one damage, which was from heavy artillery fire.
Bombers also attacked Japanese troops near Manilla. One bomber was shot down by a zero.
An IJN PT boat east of Hue was bombed and then sunk by an ASW DD.
More bombs fell around Tokyo, destroying a road and rail into the city.
A Japanese marine scout on an island near Cebu was killed by paratroopers, assisted by a US DD.
