After Alexander's army beat back the attacks from Icosium (losing nearly half his strength), it was time for the assault. Alex led his army of Hoplites against the lead defender, a fortified spear, and was victorious, although his army was weaker still. Sensing this to be a decisive moment, Alexander called forth the Companion Cavalry (vet horsemen). The first killed a spear who appears to have been rushed

to the scene, then the second killed one of Persia's famed Immortals, and the third horsemen killed an archer. Yet another archer remained. This was the test, would Alexander live up to the title of The Great,

or would he fall back and be remembered as Alexander the Mediocre...
Alexander himself charged in,

finishing off the remaining defender, and Icosium was liberated from the Persian Empire! With the roads now opened, reinforcing hoplites were rushed to the scene to prepare for the inevitable Persian counterattack, but Alexander, this day at least, was victorious!
