C3C Redux: Six months with no patch.

An official patch would probably help people with OOS problems in MP games, even if it's exactly a dupe of Bhruic's patch.

We can all complain about Firaxis-et al. We should also bear in mind they(Firaxis) are well aware there is the "unofficial patch". Which if I'm not mistaken has delayed an official one, along with their goal to push Revolutions. There would be little to no point in releasing an official patch that only duplicates Bhuric's fixes. I really don't believe Firaxis is the evil company a lot of complainers here are trying to make them out to be.
Hopefully I wont have to eat my shorts, but I bet the patch will be significantly more than just a couple of bug fixes.

I doubt that. How many Civ 4 players as a % know about this patch? 0.2%?

@ Warpus, how many know about the official patches?
I imagine if they know about the official ones, they are halfway clued in about the rest. If they are inclined to look for an official patch it's less than a hop skip and a jump to any of the fan sites - which are 2 clicks away on firaxis.com
[Community] + Links.
This is not 1995, anyone halfway interested in the games they have purchased look stuff up online.

the better question would be "why don't they know?" i have a hard time with the patch is hard to find argument. if you type "CIV4" in any search engine it will give you a list of sites just like this one. all you have to do is read. if that's too hard to do i don't have a lot of sympathy.

Pretty much the Sid Meier business model described here. He's been doing it for ages. The pattern for a long time has always been to abandon the last release before everything is fixed, then move on to the next project for which people are supposed to fork out more money.

The only difference here is that the next project isn't even a PC game. So you don't get the routine con that you have to buy the next game to finally see those features that should have been in the first game anyways (like MP in the earlier digits) or those fixes you need.

Oh, and the other rather novel part is getting people to fix their stuff for free for them.

say what you want. the world of gaming would be a much sadder and boring place without Sid. i think he has provided all of us with many, many hours of entertainment.

I am the only one who actualy likes the Firaxis games ? I love CIV and Pirates and Railroads, if your girlfriend is geek enough to find the bugs in civ she should be geek enough to get the unoffcial patch as well dont you think ?

That is true. Unfortunately what marc420 said is true, too. :(

Dude, not everyone who plays civ is a civfanatic like us. And how many people on these very forums don't even know about the patch?

Take your sympathy elsewhere..

Talking about fanboyism.

With acritic attitudes like this, no company needs patches.

Talking about fanboyism.

Talk about being a hater. He didn't imply that patches weren't needed. He said that Sid provided us with many hour of entertainment. In my case this is very true. I suspect if you are on these forums it is true also. Call me a fanboy if you want. I've told the Firaxians many things I disliked in their games.

Sid Meier has granted me entertainment granted in the months worth of gameplay time, maybe even years worth. (Hard to imagine just how many hours I have actually racked up playing Civ since 1.I believe I was 13. Now I am 28. That is ALOT of games every year for 15 years.

However, "Sid Meier's" is becoming more of a brand name than a seal of quality anymore. If it remains a seal of quality, I will continue to purchase. But Pirates!, Railroads, and Civ 4 (not as much damage as the other 2 but noticable for me - BTS makes up for alot.) have done some pretty serious damage to the seal all in a short amount of time. (Since 2K Games took over Firaxis. Coincidence?) If 2k is going to ruin the name, I can let it go. Sid can have a "thanks, it was a blast." quote from me and I will move on.

He said that Sid provided us with many hour of entertainment.

Should I build him a shrine? I think not.

First, when a product is sold to me for profit, I owe the seller nothing but my money. As companies like to say, this is a business... Well, so is for their customers, isn't it?

And second, I think is better to leave glorious past deeds for history books. The fact is that, today, the Meier brand means only another company like many; nothing more than that. And that's not much.

Firaxis have not produced a single good patch for BtS. They owe it to their customers to do so. It's as simple as that.

I was talking about Sid Meier games as a whole. It was not a comment on Firaxis or the state of the missing patch.

You say this like it is good news!

Can't we get a bugfree, stable version that is official for Steam, HoF and multiplayer first? The last 'improvement' introduced many of the things that now need fixing, let's all just set our sights a little lower until we're back on track.

"New content justifies delay" is not a principle I am comfortable with.
