C3C Scenario/Mod: Rising Sun

I am glad you enjoy it! There is no hurry. The 200 BC version is still going to be part of the package and it might be interesting to see what the world looks like through Byzantine eyes. So, keep sharing the experience!

When you decide to try the 600 AD version, make sure you download the latest file. The download counter is zeroed after each upload, so check the date of the last edit.

I’m really liking the Byzaahs, maybe it’s because I’m in Monarch and not Emperor, who knows. Japan seemed so tough, but yet Silver 2039 is doing very good.

I took Jerusalem and another Garagum Desert town from the Persians. To unite the whole country with Leipzig (my far east city). Later, I’ve taken all of the German lands, then the Romans were kicked out of the European continent by China and India. I’ve since kicked out China from Europe, only 2 Indian cities remain in Europe, but we’re at peace. When I discovered Replaceable Parts I had to go for a little adventure in West Africa to get some Rubber. :D

I’m currently in the 1700’s now with about 10-15 turns away from getting Tanks! Is the pace going as you wished??? It is one crazy world war out here!!! And very much like WWI :goodjob: A little frustrating, because so-called allies suddenly backstab you. Right now, I’m at war with all of my neighbors, but then all of my neighbors are at war with each other, CRAZY!!!

The “Theory of Evolution” has helped me gain a tiny lead in the tech race. :)

One thing that is strange however, is that I’ve noticed the size of some Chinese and Indian cities going down FAST. I thought perhaps you made Industrial Age units cost 1 population point, but I can’t see that done in the Editor. There was one city, which went from 12 to 1 in a hurry. No-one has an Air-Force and obviously the AI isn’t using Arty, so I really don’t know what’s happening.

I checked to see in the Editor to see if you had taken out the Aztecs, because there is no sign that they ever existed. But they are in the Editor, so that’s a bit weird.

Thank you so much for putting in the Naval Infantry. :D The Romans and Germans had been left to 1-tile city islands and I was able to finish them off, for the sake of game speed, which is much improved.

IMPORTANT
One more thing the tech “Railroads” was being ignored by all of the AI. I believe this helped me gain that bit of edge against the AI in the tech race, once I started building my rails. I think you should remove the “Not required for Era Advancement” tag, so that the AI will go for it.

Finally here is the world in the year 1250! This is after I took them 2 Persian cities

And here is the world in the year 1540! After the beat down of Germany. I should note that the Iroquois have since ripped apart the Mayan lands. I’ll try and put up one from the 1700’s !

It looks very interesting!

It looks like the Aztecs were wiped out by the Mayans before the Iroquois got them. :D The reason cities go down so quickly in population is probably due to conscription. Those guys must be really fighting for their lives! :)
I am really curious about the units from the modern era!

I will remove the tag for railroads and speed up the time line a little! I also will make the Carthagians agricultural instead of seafaring. It kind of makes more sense since they are in the desert...

EDIT: The changes have now been implemented in version 2.51.

ANyway, I've quit the game, due to lag time, so I'm now ready for the new version. The Koreans were gone, with the Mongols, Arabs, Vikings, Persians on their way out.

Which civ would you like to see in action in the new version???

To know that the AI has trouble dealing with conscription was very useful! In version 2.52 I thus moved away some features of Nationalism to other advances and made it non-era required. Military Tradition now has Mobilization as a new feature rather than conscription.

EDIT: Since you are not supposed to be able to load old saves after installing the 1.22 patch perhaps posting the saved game is not as meaningful as I though...

As to which civilization to play, I would still say
Japan,
followed by
England or Scandinavia,
though the latter is even harder now. If you want to play at higher level,
China or America
could be fun. If you want to go for a conquest victory, from a historic perspective perhaps the
Arabs
would be most interesting, even though I am not sure how fun they are to play.

OK, I won't be able to play until next week.

I'm also interested in finding out about the Arabs.

I think they are very difficult to play. :)

The Arabs are significantly significantly stronger in 600 AD than they were in 200 BC, not only controlling 50% more cities, but also starting with a unit generating wonder. If they manage to defeat Egypt or Persia, they gain control over additional pre-placed wonders. Instead of attacking immediately they can also chose to expand into the jungles of central Africa. Perhaps a little more difficult to play than China, I think world domination is within their reach. :)
The drawback is that they have no new fun units, and are affected only by the general improvements in the mod, such as the ability to upgrade Ancient Cavalry to Ansar Warriors.

It's good to see that the Arabs have been pumped up in the 600 version. Anyways, I'm not sure if I'll be able to start a new game this week either. :( Next week, looks better though. :)

Next week sounds good! In the meantime I have started to look at a 1200 AD scenario. My historical analysis showed that this is the third date that makes sense for a global scenario. :) It will be rather different, though, with larger and more advanced cities.
It is also perhaps best tuned to Japan, since it coincides with the appearance of the first Shogun... Besides, these were the times when Richard Lionheart fought Saladin, and Djinghis Khan started his conquests... On a smaller scale the Reconquista in Spain was ending and the Venetians had not yet managed to deal a lethal blow to the Byzantines by redirecting the 4th crusade to Constantinople.

But 600 AD is definitely the time of Arab expansion! It would be fun to see how things develop.

While testing the Arabs I found an unexpected 'feature'. If a unit producing wonder required a resource, such as Ivory, no units will be built unless this is available. In the latest release I have fixed this, and added the War Council wonder in Mecca, as well as some ports.

Hey Mr Black can you post some of your saved games to see how will be the scenarion in modern times Ok?

Great, Pawel!

I don't have it anymore, as I resaved over it. :(

But I was using some older patch, so it might not have been able function anyway.

silver 2039:
Nice to see you back! Just don't upset the moderators this time! ;)

I have a feeling that Mr Black wants to play the Arabs. :) Unless you want to play Japan again (which could be fun to try to comment on the changes), I would suggest China, England, or Scandinavia (in order of increasing difficulty). England will be even more fun in the 1200 AD scenario, though, when they are crusading! But it will be quite a while before that one is finished since it requires substantial modifications and I have a lot to do at the moment.

Of course, just playing a few turns with any civ would also be interesting. I hope that most Euroasian civs should be fun to play, and all suggestions towards this end are valuable!

Mr Black:
Please correct me if I am wrong as to your preferences. :D

OK, in version 2.53 I have now included a beta of the 1200 AD scenario. Pehaps one of you guys could try the 600 AD and one the 1200 AD scenario? The latter has more stuff on the map and loads a little slower...

I've just loaded up the 600 AD scenario, am going to play as the Arabs, God willing.

In the name of Allah the Merciful, the rise of Islam shall spread like wildfire among the infidels!

game report to come, later

ALLAH AKHBAR!!!

Good Luck! I hope... :D Anyway, it will be interesting!

I also attach a version of the 1200 AD scenario with a somewhat slower time line. This does, of course, not affect game play, but experience shows that it is hard to guess the exact pace...

EDIT: The file has been included in the latest release, and can be downloaded from the first post.

1 minor thing; In the Civpedia it said that the WOnder in Jerusalem still needed Ivory.

Anyways, I desperately went out to search for Iron, but couldn't find it anywhere. Afterwards, I checked the Editor and saw that Egypt, Arabia and Persia have no Iron sources. :( The closest one is in Turkey.

I'd put one Iron somehere around Jerusalem, or near that fortress on a hill next Jerusalem. This location is right where the 3 middle eastern civs meet and of course they will all be fighting for Jerusalem. :)

But it's your decision. I report, you decide. :D  (It's a reference to Faux News)

Now in the game, I tried to 'convert' the Egyptians to Islam, but they didn't appear to like that. In fact, it went horribly wrong! yada, yada, yada.......I'm going to restart a new game with the Arabs, and erase from my mind what just occured.

What makes the loading time longer? Is it more units, or buildings in the cities???
