Sorry bud, that's a Chinese Rider if I ever saw one.

At least it's a snap to replace art files.

I like the sound of a Persian cavalry unit...

And can someone please give some pics of a modern Gilgamesh and a modern Theodora...pweese...

I know, I'm dispointed to say the least (but to grateful to cehieftess to spam this thread, so later, once I have C3C, i'll open a thread devoted to it ;))

but even as persian cavlary its half assed, thestonesfan is right- its so orentialized to even say its Byzantine is ridicuouls- its obvious to me that the unit art was meant more then likelly for the fall of ROme scen as a persian unit, and more then likelly got shuved into place as the byzantine cataphract art.

it simple enugh to fix in a patch firaxis- you have a unit that look close to what you need for the scenarion, and that ancient cavalry, all that need to be done is to redirect the art files and such

Unless ancient cavalry is already in play for that scenario. Is it?

I doubt it, as that would either mean that the Byzantine have a differnt unit which requires that art, or has the temple fo Zeus, which is proposterous,as I do belive by that time it was destroyed, not to mention, most area of the greco Roman polytheistic religion crush, and forced converted into whatever form of christianity was present (not all the pockets of greco-Roman polytheism though)- the ancient cavalry seem to be particuraley fervent worshippers of Zeus ;)

That "Cataphract" is not chinese rider. It looks quite nice to me, in fact. After all many nations used cataphract, not only Byzantium. So one cant say what "real Cataphract" looks like.

"Cataphract from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

The cataphract was a type of heavy cavalryman used throughout the Middle East and adjoining regions from late antiquity up through the High Middle Ages. The term is Greek, with a basic meaning of "covered" or "protected", and a specific military meaning of "armored". Nations deploying cataphracts at some time in their history included the Armenians, Byzantines, Parthians, Pergamenes, Romans, Sarmatians, Sassanids, and others.

Cataphracts were the heavy assault force of most nations that used them, acting as shock troops supported by light or heavy infantry and foot or mounted archers. Supporting archery was deemed particularly important for the proper deployment of cataphracts. The Parthian army that defeated the Romans at Carrhae in 53 BCE operated primarily as a combined arms team of cataphracts and horse archers against the Roman heavy infantry.

A cataphract charge was generally more disciplined and less impetuous than the charges of the knights of Western Europe, but very effective due to the discipline and the large numbers of troops deployed. "

but NONE used ORENTAL SWOARDS as the main wepon did they?- NONE of them used NO ARMOUR did they?

take a good hard look at that unit-

it has no spear, thus cannot charge
it has no bow, thus cannot dose not have a fleible tacticle role as the BYZANTINE (as oppoesd to a differn nations) cataphract is supposed to have

hell, the bloody thing dosent even have a Byzantine feel to him, but look more like some Mongolio-Russion crossbreed unit in need of a haircut

the article you posted also has flawed information

Well maybe they messed up with the names, but this unit- art seems new to me.

Well, you can chance the name. Let it be "Persian- elit cavalry" or something like that. :)

now that I look at him...he wouldnt make all that bad of a hun...

but I plan to use the graphic as a northern typ can- giving it to Russia, and the Scandanaivians, or mabey eastern, giving it to the koreans...I dont know yet, but its not a Byzantine cav, that about all I'm gonna say for the moment though...

Not A C3C Screenshot!
Heres the Rider for comparison; you sure they're not the same?

Not quite, the beefy swords in CT's pic are different.

Edit: You ARE right, I just didn't get the right positions in that SS that show the sword.

:rotfl: That's a Wikipedia: anyone can edit it. I could make it say "Cataphracts are pink heffalumps that fly out of my rear" if I wanted to. So could you. Since it's a community-modded site somebody would notice and roll back my edit sooner or later, but I wouldn't consider the source athoritative.

Could someone get me a screenshot of the civilopedia entry of the government type Imperialism? It may be scenario-specific...

EDIT: Okay, it's in the Rise of Rome scenario... so I guess you should start that up in order to access the proper civilopedia entries.

What's in the lower left corner of that pic?

Its a nasty little Conquistador. The spanish were making good use of them over a vast expanse of jungle between us that game.

In websters , a cataphact is -armored war galley-Greek , or scale armor (Roman) for a man or horse.

Glad to see that ol Conquistidor -with the changes thses guys may be very nice indeed-use them alot in ptw as is and learned to make them killers of the backward civs-which is what they kind of did historically ...someone mentioned "why not use knights" ...answer- Ga and movement- however i think spain is now with new traits- will have to adjust...
