Cache and focused traits

In a few last versions (I play original v33) I have noticed something strange. Recently I used to play with such options: Developing Leaders, Pure traits, No positive traits, No negative traits, Focused traits. Usually the first traits I choose are Scientific and Philosophical. Scientific gives some boost to science, especially in the Capital, Philosophical increases GP rate and makes Golden Age longer.

And now there is something strange, If I clear Assets\Cache dir (e.g. because I installed new version of C2C, new dll or unofficial PL patch), these traits change. Scientific loses its bonus for Capital but makes it possible to upgrade units outside national borders and Scientists produce much more hammers. Philosophical does not increase GA length but promotions for military units require 20% less XP (like in original Charismatic). After the next loading of a saved game it recalculates everything again and this game is unattended but new games start with 'old' traits.

It seems that there is some conflict between two alternative sets of traits and I do not know, which of them fit to the "Focused traits" option. Anyway, for some reason the game reverts to initial sets of traits. I would say that (especially for Scientific) initial is better early (a BIG science boost in Capital) and alternative is better later.

hmm... very interesting. I wonder if this has anything to do with the problem we've had isolating any change from SGT slick's game speed replacement adjustments on his option.

I'm actually wondering if clearing the cache forced things to work correctly and was what triggered the focused traits to actually work where it might not have been previously. I'd have to look at the xml def's on both with what you said in mind to see which is actually taking place after clearing the cache.

It would be not surprising, because otherwise I did not notice any difference between ordinary traits and Focused Traits without clearing the cache (although I did not check it carefully). That is why I cleared it at the beginning of the current game, without any other reason.

Pedia entries for Traits and Traits (IIRC) "for the Developing Leaders only" are shown separately but they seem to be the same.

BTW: I have noticed a minor bug somewhere else. I have built Bear Trainer in my capital and now in the Top V Cities list all my shown cities have shown Bear Trainer Effect as a Great Wonder built in the city.

At the moment, all traits would be the same between devel and non-devel but it won't be that way forever as developing traits advance to become a tiered structure where you can advance along given trait lines like promotions. This is currently the same way for both focused and non-focused designs (the same between devel and non-devel.) The project is on pause for a bit.

Well... I remember some screen with trait progressions shown and when I started to play with Developing Leaders I wondered what happened to that (one of my guesses was it was some kind of experiment).

Sgt slick was working on an initial progression based version. I'll do one of my own eventually but for the moment I'm sucked back into Combat Mod work.
