Call for Jungle Warfare strategy

For me, Jungle Warfare is pathetic; nevertheless it is very effective way to gain competitive advantage in economics. This is a strategy for multipliers only.

My question is how to develop a strategy to beat jungle warfare strategy, which is less costly.

First of all, basic jungle warfare strategy:

1. Park your very first warrior in front of enemy city, preferably in the jungle, hill, and crossing from a river. When possible, steal a worker. It will take at least 2 warriors to clear this one warrior, sometime even 3.
2. Send the second wave/third of jungle guys, such as archer, axemen with jungle defense.
3. By now you have truly interrupted the opponents economics, you could build such things like oracle, …
4. Win by economic differentiation.

I suppose you could do the exactly the same to your opponents, but some player have better early units.

I suppose you could clear these jungle guys, but that is exactly your opponents want you to do, because of the jungle defense and their better early units.

I suppose you could wait for help from your teammate’s help, but the economic differentiation has been created and you are at the disadvantage.

Your thought please.

very nice i never thought of that:D

Does this idea assume a particular map size and number of players?

A smart human will build an axeman and slaughter your warrior.

A high-level AI will sacrifice 3 warriors and still beat you to the Oracle.

You will do ok against a stupid human or a low-level AI. But the rest of the world will zoom ahead of both of you.

Use some jaguars and you will be sorted to defend that jungle. :mischief:

The idea is this: when your opponent do have axemen, you already have a few your own axemen in the jungle with jungle defense upgrade. Obviously, you must get axemen ASAP.

It should work if you are 10 squares away. It might even work when you are 15 - 20 squares away. So it should work for standard maps or smaller maps.

It works if you have war with 1 state.

um, call me silly, but you defending those jungle tiles...hmm...why would anyone work a jungle tile...send your workers out with escorts and ignore the parked jungle units till you outclass them ( and you will outclass then before reinforcements arrive )...now your defenders...must attack to go after the worker, and you wasted the resources to guard 1hammer, or 1food jungle tiles.

the strategy of choking is a good one...doing it poorly is just a waste of resources and can be beaten back easily...why beat off your jungle defended warriors, when I can send my own warriors into your camp and do the same

1 research bronze working, animal husbandry, iron working first, switch to slavery, since you cannot improve land, slaving is best
1.1 preemptively chop all forrests adjacent to a city unless you're in the middle in inland teamer

2 plan on hooking up one of those resources:

2.1 if within or next to fat cross and you will get it within couple of turns:
- build warrior/archer, park in forrests next to city
- build worker, go to square occupied by yoru unit, chop
- build more warriors/archers, lower research, chop
- cover route to resource and resource with units, build road, build mine
- once you're hooked up, upgrade 2 warriors to axe, slave another axe
- if no metals you can build chariots if you have horses

2.2 build a city
- chop forrests adjacent to city
- build 2nd worker
- with one worker start roading to site, if you can take advantage of rivers or consider sailing
- build settler, settle, mine, upgrade warriors, see 2.1

2.3 If you have no resources nearby:
- research construction, catapults with proper promotions can be very effective
- if you're playing teamer, save cash, take your warriors to teammate's city that has iron/copper, upgrade to axes, come back

The key:
- don't panic
- don't attack against odds
- preemptively put archers on forrests, hils, road everything, chop forrests adjacent to city
- dislodge them either by getting axes while he's still choking with warriors or archers or by getting catapults

how do you get axemen when you cant hook up copper? As Si_Lurker says dont panic. I have gotten enemy capitals because people attacked my fortified warrior in a forest across the river with his only 2 warriors in capital and lost so i could take the undefended city. This can often slow down the enemy so much that you can easily take them out once you get units like axemen or similar to attack with. If you need to get to construction before you can get out of it half the battle is allready lost. If you can get out units early enough just block all nearby easily defecible spots until its all chopped away and you should be safe.
